The Dilettante Achievement in Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced is earned by filling every art collection and equipment slot inside the Great Inagua Manor. It is widely considered the longest and most grind-heavy trophy in the game. This guide breaks down every category, what you need, and the fastest way to get it all done.

What Is the Dilettante Achievement?

The Dilettante Achievement is a Silver Trophy on PlayStation 5 and a 60G Achievement on Xbox Series X|S. The official requirement is to fill all Art Collection and Equipment slots in the Great Inagua Manor. That covers six separate categories totalling over 100 items.

Here is the full checklist at a glance:

• 41 Art Pieces — sculptures, decorations, and furniture displayed in cabinets and on tables
• 9 Paintings — one from each warehouse raid across the map
• 20 Ship Models — one for each ship type and all Legendary Ships
• 11 Character Portraits — found during story missions and scattered across the world
• 18 Swords — bought, found, or received as quest rewards
• 12 Pistols — bought, found, or received as quest rewards

The achievement unlocks only after every slot is physically filled. Collecting the items is not enough. You need to return to Great Inagua and interact with each display slot to place the item. If the achievement does not pop when you expect it, go room by room and check for any remaining interaction prompts.

How to Unlock Great Inagua Manor

Great Inagua Manor becomes accessible during Sequence 4, Mission 1: This Old Cove. Once you take the manor from Julien Du Casse, you can start rebuilding it and filling the display slots. The Fleet Planning table also unlocks here, which is where you access Kenway’s Fleet. This is critical — fleet missions are the source of 19 of your 41 required Art Pieces.

Start the fleet grind the moment you unlock it. Those 19 Art Pieces are entirely random drops and can take many hours of cycling missions. The rest of the game naturally supplies most other categories if you keep exploring and completing side content alongside the story.

41 Art Pieces — The Hardest Part

Art Pieces are the largest and most time-consuming category. You need all 41. They come from three sources:

• 16 open-world collectibles — found in chests, from treasure maps, in ruins, and through local events across the Caribbean. Several buried treasure chests reward an Art Piece alongside Reales and Design Plans, making treasure map hunting doubly worthwhile.
• 6 General Store purchases — bought at any general store for Reales. These are always available and not time-gated.
• 19 random Piracy mission rewards from Kenway’s Fleet — this is the bottleneck. These drop from named Brig Piracy missions and are entirely luck-dependent.

How to Farm the 19 Fleet Art Pieces Fast

The 19 random fleet Art Pieces are what make Dilettante the longest grind in the game. Here is how to minimise the time it takes:

• Capture at least 5 Brigs as early as possible. Board them and add them to your fleet via the Fleet Planning table at Great Inagua or from your ship’s cabin.
• Send your Brigs on Piracy missions, not Trade missions. Art Pieces only drop from Piracy missions. You can tell if a mission rewards an Art Piece because it shows a small icon and a value of “1” in the mission rewards.
• Capture forts to open up locked fleet regions. Some Art Pieces are tied to specific mission names in specific regions. If those regions are locked, your Brigs cannot access them. See our Forts Guide and our guide on how to capture forts.
• Use the manual save trick. Before you accept a completed fleet report, make a manual save. If the next batch of missions does not show an Art Piece in the rewards, reload the save and try again. This effectively lets you reroll mission batches without losing progress.

9 Paintings — Raid Every Warehouse

Paintings are straightforward. There are 12 total in the game, but you only need 9 to fill the manor’s painting slots. Each of the 9 warehouses spread across the map rewards one Painting when raided. Simply raid all 9 warehouses and you have everything you need.

Do not confuse Paintings with Character Portraits — they are two entirely separate collectible categories and go in different display slots. Paintings are tracked under Codex > Database > Art Collection: Paintings.

Three additional Paintings can be purchased for 2,000 Reales each from a hidden general store at coordinates (550, 638). These are listed under “Strange Paintings” in the Codex. You do not need them for Dilettante, but they are worth knowing about.

20 Ship Models — Defeat Every Ship Type

Ship Models go on the shelf in the Fleet Planning room of the manor. You get one model for each ship type by defeating that class at sea. This means sinking both the Spanish and English version of each ship class. Use your Spyglass to confirm a ship’s type and nationality before engaging.

The five ship classes you need to cover are Cutters, Schooners, Brigs, Frigates, and Man o’ War ships:

• Cutters and Schooners — found in the easy northern waters around Dry Tortuga and Gibara. Easy to sink early.
• Brigs — appear in medium-difficulty zones like Cruz. You will encounter plenty while building your fleet.
• Frigates and Man o’ War — found in the difficult southern regions of Serranilla and Chinchorro. Wait until the Jackdaw is well-upgraded before engaging.

Five additional Ship Models come automatically from story progress. One more — the HMS Ipswich — is tied to the A World Without Gold side questline at Great Inagua, which becomes available after Sequence 11, Mission 3. Do not miss it. 11 Character Portraits — Story and World Collectibles

Character Portraits are paintings of specific NPCs you encounter during the game. There are exactly 11, and you need all 11. They cannot be purchased — they must be found in specific locations, usually connected to that character’s hideout or quest chain.

Most Portraits appear naturally during main quests. However, some are hidden in the open world and easy to miss if you are not specifically hunting for them. Collecting all 11 also unlocks the separate The Memory of My Enemy trophy or achievement.

18 Swords — Buy, Find, and Quest

The manor has 18 sword display slots and there are over 26 swords available in the game, so you have flexibility over which 18 you collect. Two swords are given to you through the main story. You can buy another 10 from general stores and 2 from the Treasure Dealer at Great Inagua. The rest come from the open world and quest rewards.

Swords are expensive if you buy them all — the total cost across stores reaches around 128,000 Reales. To keep costs down, exhaust quest rewards and world finds first before spending Reales on purchased swords. DLC swords from the Animus Exchange or pre-order bonuses can also fill display slots, which lets you skip some of the pricier base game options if you own them.

Displaying a sword in the manor does not remove it from your inventory, so you lose nothing by filling those slots.

12 Pistols — Buy or Find Any 12

There are 17 pistols available in AC Black Flag Resynced but you only need 12 for the manor display. This gives you the most flexibility of any category. Standard pistols like the Wheellock are available from any general store from early in the game. Upgrading the Great Inagua shop unlocks additional options including the Pirate Blunderbusses, Spanish Officer Pistols, and Golden Flintlock Pistols.

Like swords, DLC pistols from the online store can fill slots but are not required — the base game supply is more than enough. As with all weapons, displaying them does not remove them from your inventory.

Dilettante Tips and Common Mistakes

Here are the most common mistakes that slow players down on this achievement:

• Not starting Kenway’s Fleet early. The 19 random Art Pieces are gated behind fleet mission RNG. Starting late means a much longer grind at the end.
• Ignoring forts. Locked fleet regions block access to certain Piracy missions and their Art Piece rewards. Capture all 11 forts to open everything. Use our Forts Guide to track them down.
• Buying swords before checking quest rewards. Story quests and world finds can cover many sword slots for free. Save your Reales and spend them only on what you genuinely cannot find.
• Owning items without placing them. Every item must be physically placed in its display slot at Great Inagua. If the achievement does not unlock, do a room-by-room check for any remaining interaction prompts.
• Confusing Portraits with Paintings. They are completely different categories, tracked separately, and displayed in different rooms of the manor.
• Relying on one autosave during fleet farming. Always make a manual save before accepting a completed fleet report so you can reroll mission batches for Art Piece drops.

Art Lover Quest — Related Side Content

Connected to the Dilettante grind is the Art Lover quest, which starts automatically in Sequence 4 alongside This Old Cove. It is introduced by Bernard Woodhouse, the manor’s former butler. The quest asks you to collect 30 Art Pieces and has milestone rewards along the way:

• 15 Art Pieces — Le Bourgeoys Blades (Legendary Sword) and Found Coin (Rare Trinket)
• 25 Art Pieces — The Aquila’s Sails, Aquila Figurehead, and The Aquila’s Wheel (ship cosmetics)
• 30 Art Pieces — Obsidian Hull (Legendary Hull) and Master Assassin Outfit

Note that Portraits and Paintings do not count toward the Art Lover milestone counter — only items in the Art Pieces category do. The Legendary Sword reward from the 15-piece milestone also helps fill one of your sword display slots, saving you Reales.

Treasure Maps That Reward Art Pieces

Several buried treasure chests across the Caribbean reward Art Pieces alongside their Reales and Design Plans. Hunting treasure maps is one of the best passive ways to chip away at your Art Piece count while doing other collectible work.

For example, the treasure buried at Salt Lagoon rewards the Serpent Figurehead Design Plan and 3,000 Reales, while the New Bone treasure from the Salt Lagoon Treasure Map chain gives you the Maize Deity Art Piece — which counts directly toward your Dilettante total.
