What Is the Double-Headed Axe of Greed?

The Double-Headed Axe of Greed is a legendary One-Handed Axe in Crimson Desert. According to the lore, it was a double-edged axe specially ordered by Sizlek the Insatiable — crafted to be light enough for one-handed use but more than capable of delivering a fatal strike. It vanished during transit, which is how it ended up in a shipwreck on the southern coast of Pywel.

In combat, the axe hits hard and crits often. It carries Critical Rate Lv. 2 as a base stat, along with a Critical Rate Abyss Gear already slotted in, and three total Abyss Core Slots for further customization. That stacked crit potential makes it a natural fit for any crit-focused build. It can also shatter enemy shields quickly and has good AoE damage on heavy attacks.

Because the Demeniss Southern Cliff Shipwreck is in the starting region and requires no story gate to access, this is one of the best early power spikes you can get in Crimson Desert. Kliff and Oongka can both wield it.

Double-Headed Axe of Greed Location — Demeniss Southern Cliff Shipwreck

The axe is sitting inside the debris of a shipwreck on the rocky southern coast, at a location called the Demeniss Southern Cliff Shipwreck. Here is where it is on the map:

  • Southeast of the Steel Mountains, on the southern edge of the map
  • South of Hernand, along the coastal cliffs
  • On the world map, position yourself just below the right side of the “S” in “Steel Mountains” — then head southeast toward the shoreline

Fastest route: Fast travel to the Steel Mountains Abyss Nexus, which is located south of the Spire of Insight. From there, head east through the mountains toward the coastline. The partially sunken shipwreck is visible once you get close to the water’s edge.

How to Get the Double-Headed Axe of Greed — Step by Step

Step 1: Reach the Demeniss Southern Cliff Shipwreck

After warping to the Steel Mountains Abyss Nexus, ride or run east through the mountain pass toward the coast. The terrain will slope downward toward the cliffs. Once you reach the southern shoreline, you will spot the wreck — a large partially sunken ship lodged against the rocky beach.

Approaching from higher ground is a good idea. It gives you a tactical view of the area and lets you spot enemies before they see you.

Step 2: Clear the Dancing Catfish Pirates

The shipwreck area is occupied by Dancing Catfish Pirates when you arrive. These enemies are not particularly tough — even mid-game players will handle them quickly. But you need to clear them before you can safely search for the axe.

Take them out with ranged attacks from the cliffside first to thin the numbers, then finish off anyone left on the beach. Once the area is clear, you can search freely.

Step 3: Find the Axe in the Water

Here is the part that trips most players up. The axe is not inside the ship itself — it is floating in the shallow water in front of the wreck, hidden among the floating debris.

Walk around the side of the wreckage toward the debris field in the water. Look carefully for a shiny object partially submerged beneath the surface. The waves move it slightly, which helps it catch the eye. If you are struggling to spot it, use your lantern to illuminate the area — the shiny glint becomes much more obvious under the light.

Once you see it, walk up to it and a prompt will appear. Interact with it to pick up the Double-Headed Axe of Greed. No puzzle, no key, no special mechanic — just walk up and take it.

What If the Axe Is Not There?

This is worth knowing upfront. The Double-Headed Axe of Greed does not have a guaranteed fixed spawn. Some players arrive and find it immediately. Others find an empty spot.

Based on community testing, the spawn is random. It is not tied to a three-day in-game wait as some early guides suggested — it simply reappears on a random schedule. If it is not there when you arrive, rest for a few in-game days at a campfire or inn and then return to check again. Using the time-skip method available through certain quests can also speed this up. Keep checking back and it will eventually appear.

Double-Headed Axe of Greed Stats

Here is the full breakdown:

  • Type: One-Handed Axe (usable by Kliff and Oongka)
  • Base Attack: 20
  • Critical Rate: Lv. 2 (built in)
  • Pre-slotted Abyss Gear: Critical Rate (additional crit on top of the base Lv. 2)
  • Abyss Core Slots: 3 total
  • Refinement: Upgradable at any Blacksmith from +0 upward

The layered crit — base Critical Rate Lv. 2 from the weapon itself, plus a Critical Rate Abyss Gear already in one of the slots — means you are landing critical hits far more consistently than with most early and mid-game weapons. That translates directly to shorter fights and more burst damage in the moments that matter most.

Best Builds for the Double-Headed Axe of Greed

Critical Rate Build — This is the most obvious pairing. Stack the remaining two open Abyss Gear slots with more crit-focused cores, equip the Goblin King’s Treasure Dagger in your passive slot for Critical Rate Lv. 5, and combine with our Critical Rate OP Boss Build for a crit machine that shreds through boss health bars.

Dual-Wield Build — As a one-handed weapon, the axe pairs well in a dual-wield setup. Check out how to dual wield in Crimson Desert for the mechanics, and look into pairing it with another strong one-hander from our best one-handed swords guide.

AoE Clear Build — Axes have natural AoE potential on heavy attacks. Combined with the crit rate, this makes crowd control and area clearing fast and satisfying. Use elemental imbuing to add extra damage on top. Our guide on how to use elemental attacks and imbue elements explains how to stack elemental damage with your weapon skills.

Tips for Using the Axe Effectively

Refine it early. Even a few refinement levels make a noticeable difference in base attack. Head to any Blacksmith and start pushing it up. Our guide on how to upgrade weapons and armor walks through the full reinforcement system.

Use it for boss fights. The combination of high crit rate and AoE damage on heavy attacks makes the Double-Headed Axe especially strong in boss encounters. Carry Refined Palmar Pills and healing food to stay alive while you deal damage.

Swap to passive slots when not fighting. Like all weapons, the axe contributes its stats passively even when not actively in hand. Use the slot smartly alongside your main combat setup.

Pair with Attack Level upgrades. Our guide on how to increase attack level in Crimson Desert shows how to squeeze even more damage out of your setup beyond just the weapon stats.
