Golden Fern is a Snezhnaya Local Specialty introduced in Genshin Impact Version 7.0. A fern whose edges radiate a faint golden shimmer, said to take on a remarkably unique flavor when stewed. Golden Fern is concentrated in the warmer areas of western Snezhnaya, particularly around Flamefeather Valley and neighboring regions. The small reddish-golden leaves can be difficult to distinguish from the surrounding grass and autumn vegetation. There are 80 Golden Fern plants available in the open world.

What Is Golden Fern Used For?

No characters currently use Golden Fern for ascension and no weapons use it either. As of Version 7.0, no characters use Golden Fern, but it is expected to be used to level up future Snezhnaya characters.

Current guides list Golden Fern as an ascension material intended for upcoming Snezhnaya characters. A standard Local Specialty ascension material requires 168 items to fully ascend one character to Level 90, so beginning to collect Golden Fern now — before the characters who need it are released — means you can have them ready from day one. The 48-hour respawn cycle makes early starts valuable: every cycle you skip before a character’s release is a cycle you cannot get back.

Where to Find Golden Fern in Genshin Impact

Golden Ferns are plants with vibrant orange colors. They are most commonly found in the areas surrounding Flamefeather Valley and Rankova Zorya.

Unlike Flockingweed, which is concentrated in Fellfrost Peak’s rocky terrain, Golden Fern grows primarily in the warmer, autumn-tinted underground biome of Flamefeather Valley and in the surrounding Volkodlak Tundra area near Rankova Zorya. The vegetation blend in Flamefeather Valley makes Golden Fern harder to spot visually — its reddish-golden fronds blend into the red and orange autumnal plant life of the zone. Having Odette or Alyosha in your party is strongly recommended to surface nearby nodes on your minimap.

Quest Requirement: Flamefeather Valley Access

Flamefeather Valley is locked behind the In the Dwelling of Life quest. This quest chain becomes available once you activate the Statue of the Seven in Snezhnograd, which you reach through the Everwinter Without Mercy Archon Quest. You must complete the In the Dwelling of Life World Quest chain to unlock full access to Flamefeather Valley, including the underground biome where a significant portion of the Golden Fern nodes are found.

Golden Fern nodes around Rankova Zorya in Volkodlak Tundra are accessible without completing this quest, making them the faster starting point if you have not yet unlocked Flamefeather Valley. Clear Rankova Zorya first, then return to Flamefeather Valley once the quest chain is complete.

Golden Fern Farm Route

The most efficient approach divides the 80 available nodes across two main farming areas. Unlock all Teleport Waypoints in Flamefeather Valley and around Rankova Zorya before attempting a complete run — the vertical and underground nature of Flamefeather Valley makes waypoint access essential for not losing significant time between clusters.

Route 1 — Rankova Zorya and Surroundings (Volkodlak Tundra)

Start at the Rankova Zorya station Teleport Waypoint. Golden Fern is most commonly found in the areas surrounding Rankova Zorya on the surface layer of Volkodlak Tundra. Work outward from the station in each direction, checking the road edges, slopes, and terrain near rock formations. These nodes are accessible without any quest requirement and should be collected first on every farming cycle.

The surface clusters near Rankova Zorya sit close enough to the station waypoint that a single teleport covers most of them. Follow the roads outward rather than cutting across open terrain — Golden Fern grows close to paths, tree lines, and slopes rather than in the open snowfield.

Route 2 — Flamefeather Valley (Underground Biome)

Flamefeather Valley sits underground, runs unusually warm, and trades white snow for a red, autumn-tinted look. This is where the majority of the 80 Golden Fern nodes are concentrated. The reddish-golden leaves can be difficult to distinguish from the surrounding grass and autumn vegetation — this is the primary reason to have Odette or Alyosha active here, as their minimap passives make otherwise easy-to-miss nodes visible.

Work through Flamefeather Valley using its five Teleport Waypoints as anchors. Check around the Statue of the Seven, along the railway tracks running through the valley, near the assembly hall, inside caves, and around the village structures. The underground biome has multiple elevation layers, so check both the surface level of the valley and any lower cavern sections beneath it.

Note that Flamefeather Valley’s combat uses the elemental firearms mode — a traversal and combat mechanic unique to this zone. This does not affect material gathering, but be aware of enemy encounters while farming.

Best Characters for Farming Golden Fern

Odette and Alyosha’s passives display the location of nearby specialties unique to Snezhnaya on the minimap. Either character is ideal to keep as your active character throughout the farming run. In Flamefeather Valley specifically, where Golden Fern blends into the autumn vegetation, the minimap passive is especially valuable — it makes nodes visible before you can see them visually, allowing you to sweep areas more quickly and confidently.

For movement speed, pairing a character with a sprint stamina reduction passive or bringing two Anemo characters for exploration speed buffs reduces overall route time. Unlock the Snezhnaya exploration gadgets through regional reputation to improve general traversal before attempting a full Flamefeather Valley sweep.

Golden Fern Respawn Time

Golden Fern respawns 48 hours after collection, the same standard timer used by all Genshin Impact Local Specialties. Relog the game or teleport from the farthest waypoint and check the location once more to confirm it has spawned. If your own world’s plants have not yet respawned and you need materials urgently, ask another player in Co-Op for permission to collect Golden Fern in their world.

Since no character currently uses Golden Fern, there is no urgency on the respawn timing right now — but establishing the farming habit before the first Golden Fern character releases means you will have stockpiles ready without needing to rush.

Can You Buy Golden Fern?

No shops sell Golden Fern. Open-world collection is the only repeatable source in Version 7.0. Small amounts may also become available through Character Test Runs, limited story rewards, birthday mail, or other one-time sources depending on the character and event. These one-time grants will cover early ascension phases when the relevant character releases, but sustained farming in the open world is required for full ascension.

Can You Grow Golden Fern in the Serenitea Pot?

Some specialties can be cultivated inside the Serenitea Pot. Golden Fern has a corresponding seed item in current material databases. Once the seed becomes obtainable — typically through NPC shops or gameplay rewards — you can plant Golden Fern in your Serenitea Pot garden to grow additional specimens over time. This supplements open-world farming but does not replace it, as pot cultivation has limited capacity and a longer yield cycle.

How to Track Golden Fern

Three methods help identify uncollected nodes efficiently. The in-game Item Tracker in the Adventurer’s Handbook marks up to three nearby Golden Fern locations on the overworld map when selected — useful for surface-level Rankova Zorya nodes. When you press Go Collect, the item will appear on the map in blue circles, along with the total amount available in that place. The official Genshin Impact Interactive Map on HoYoLAB shows all 80 node positions with tick-off tracking between sessions. And Odette or Alyosha’s exploration passive is the most practical method inside Flamefeather Valley, where visual identification is unreliable.
