Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced Isla Providencia Mayan Stone is a story-gated collectible stop that many players miss because the island cannot be accessed until mid-game. Once you can get there, the island holds two Mayan Stelae close together, making it an efficient two-stone visit. This guide covers the story unlock requirement, exact locations of both stelae, and how to solve each puzzle.
TL;DR – Isla Providencia Mayan Stone Quick Facts
- Region: Serranilla
- Story gate: Only accessible from Sequence 08 – Mission 03: Marooned
- Two Mayan Stones available – grab both in a single visit
- First stele coordinates: 476, 16 – below the western viewpoint
- Second stele coordinates: 487, 33 – on top of the ruins below the northern viewpoint
- Both stelae are close to the northernmost viewpoint – sync it first
- Also has a Treasure Map on the island – worth picking up at the same time
- Part of the Mayan Mysteries quest – collect all 16 to unlock the Mayan Outfit and Yax Tun Pendant
When Can You Access Isla Providencia in AC Black Flag Resynced
This is the most important thing to know before you sail here. Isla Providencia is completely locked until you reach Sequence 08, Mission 03: Marooned. If you try to visit before then, you simply cannot enter.
Do not stress about missing it early. The island becomes available naturally as you follow the main story. Once you complete the Marooned mission, Isla Providencia opens up and both stelae become collectible. Return as soon as you can after that point – or during a post-game cleanup run.
This is one of only three story-gated locations in the Mayan Mysteries quest. The other is Long Bay, which requires Sequence 10. Everything else can be collected in any order from Sequence 04 onward.
Where Is Isla Providencia in AC Black Flag Resynced
Isla Providencia is in the Serranilla region, in the southern part of the Caribbean map. The island has three viewpoints total. Both Mayan Stelae sit close to the northernmost viewpoint area, so syncing that one first is the priority move when you arrive.
Once you sync any viewpoint on the island, the stele markers will appear on your map. Both will show up at once, confirming this is a two-stone stop.
Isla Providencia First Mayan Stone Location – Below the Western Viewpoint
The first stele on Isla Providencia is found below the western viewpoint at approximately coordinates 476, 16. After syncing the viewpoints on the island, head to the western ruin area and look for the stele pillar below the viewpoint platform.
Steps to reach it:
- Arrive at Isla Providencia (requires Sequence 08 completion)
- Sync the northernmost viewpoint first to reveal both stele markers
- Head to the western ruin area
- Find the stele pillar below the western viewpoint
- Climb to the top of the pillar and press investigate
First Isla Providencia Mayan Stone Puzzle Solution
Once you activate the stele, Eagle Vision highlights the surrounding stone columns and ruins on the ground below. A glowing white pattern appears that you need to align.
- The puzzle shapes match the stone columns and blocks directly surrounding the pillar
- Rotate the overlay to match the highlighted structures around you
- Align each part of the pattern with its corresponding feature on the ground
- When everything lines up, a section of ground begins to glow
- Climb down from the stele and walk to the glowing dig spot
- Interact with the dig spot to collect the first Mayan Stone
Remember – solving the puzzle and collecting the stone are two separate steps. After the ground glows, you still need to go down and interact with the dig spot. Do not leave the area without doing this or you will arrive back at Tulum one stone short.
Isla Providencia Second Mayan Stone Location – Ruins Below the Northern Viewpoint
The second stele is found on top of the ruins below the northern viewpoint, at approximately coordinates 487, 33. It sits very close to the first stele, so you can move between them quickly without crossing the whole island.
Steps to reach it:
- From the first stele, move north toward the ruins below the northern viewpoint
- Look for the stele pillar sitting on top of the ruin structure
- Climb up onto the ruins and then climb the pillar
- Press investigate from the top
The two stelae are so close together that this is one of the fastest double-stone stops in the entire Mayan Mysteries quest. Do not leave the island until you have solved both.
Second Isla Providencia Mayan Stone Puzzle Solution
The second puzzle works the same way. Activate Eagle Vision from the top of the pillar and a glowing pattern appears on the ruins below.
- Again, the pattern shapes correspond to stone columns and blocks near the pillar
- Rotate and scale the overlay until it fits the highlighted structures
- Work one shape at a time rather than rotating everything at once
- Once aligned, the dig spot glows below you
- Climb down and interact with it to collect the second Mayan Stone
Both Isla Providencia puzzles follow a similar structure – the overlays match the columns and stone ruins that are immediately surrounding each pillar. They are among the more straightforward puzzles in the quest once you know what to look for.
Treasure Map on Isla Providencia – Grab It While You Are Here
Isla Providencia also holds a Treasure Map on the island. Since you are already here solving both stelae, it is well worth picking it up in the same visit. The map sits at approximately coordinates 483, 19 – approach from the beach to the north and follow the muddy path uphill between the trees to the skeleton holding it.
The treasure chest this map points to is located at Long Bay, which is itself locked until Sequence 10. But having the map in your inventory early means you are ready to dig it up the moment Long Bay opens. For the full list of all buried treasure locations, see our Treasure Map Locations guide.
How Mayan Stele Puzzles Work in Black Flag Resynced
If you are still getting used to the puzzle mechanic, here is how it works:
- Find the Mayan pillar and climb to the top
- Press the investigation button to activate Eagle Vision
- A glowing white pattern appears on the ground below you
- Nearby rocks, columns, and ruins are highlighted to show you what to match
- Rotate and scale the pattern until every part aligns with the highlighted features
- When correct, a dig spot glows on the ground below
- Climb down, walk to the spot, and interact to collect the Mayan Stone
The puzzle resets each time you approach, so there is no partial progress. Work each shape individually and you will solve it much faster than trying to spin the whole pattern at once.
Also remember – stele markers only appear on your map after syncing a viewpoint in that region. Always sync first when you arrive at a new island.
Why the Isla Providencia Mayan Stones Matter
These two stones are among the last you are likely to collect in the Mayan Mysteries quest, since the island is story-gated. Once you have them, you are very close to completing all 16 – only Long Bay remains after this (also story-gated until Sequence 10).
Completing all 16 stones unlocks:
- Mayan Outfit – Legendary cosmetic outfit (visual only in Resynced, no stat effect)
- Yax Tun Pendant – Legendary trinket that absorbs all incoming gunshots, making you completely immune to bullet damage while it is equipped
The Yax Tun Pendant makes a massive difference in late-game combat and boarding sequences. Enemies with pistols and muskets become a non-threat entirely. For the complete overview of every stone location, see our All Mayan Stelae Locations guide.
Other Mayan Stones You May Still Need
If you are visiting Isla Providencia as part of a late-game cleanup, here are the other stones to track down:
- New Bone Mayan Stone – Serranilla region, coordinates 400, 92 (British-controlled island)
- Misteriosa Mayan Stones – Two stones at coordinates 273, 175 and 265, 171
- Santanillas Mayan Stone – Chinchorro region, coordinates 186, 222
- Sacrifice Island Mayan Stone – New location added in Resynced
- Pinos Isle Mayan Stones – Two stones, Castillo de Jagua region
- Tortuga Mayan Stone – Punta Guarico region
- Cat Island Mayan Stone
- Matanzas Mayan Stone
- Cape Bonavista Mayan Stone
- Great Inagua Mayan Stone
- Tulum Mayan Stone
The only remaining gated location after Isla Providencia is Long Bay, which requires Sequence 10 – Mission 03: The Observatory before it becomes accessible.
What to Do After Collecting All 16 Mayan Stones
Once you have all 16, travel to Tulum in the Conttoyor region on the western side of the map. The Mayan Outfit quest marker appears there once you are at full count.
- Approach the sealed Mayan door in Tulum
- Interact with it and select “Place Stone”
- The door opens, revealing the inner temple
- Complete the short platforming section inside
- Reach the altar at the top to collect the Mayan Outfit and Yax Tun Pendant
