Who Is Haniel in NTE?

Haniel is an A-Rank Psyche character in Neverness to Everness and a member of Sterry Express — Hethereau’s go-to delivery service. She holds the record for fastest delivery at Sterry Express and describes herself as “Hethereau’s goddess of headsets.” On the outside she looks like a perfectly ordinary high school girl. In reality, she is an elite courier who moves through the city’s shadows with precision, missing nothing and forgetting no detail of an Anomaly Commission.

She is also the author of a serialized novel, a member of Genesse Girls’ Academy Paranormal Department (an institution that does not appear on any map of Hethereau and naturally has no official Paranormal Department), and the owner of Hootie — a portable speaker she has formed a genuine contract with. Hootie is central to both her personality and her entire combat kit.

In battle, Haniel is NTE’s most accessible buffer. She deploys Hootie onto the field, grants the whole team an ATK bonus based on her own Base ATK, and triggers cascading Ensemble follow-up attacks every time the active character racks up hits. Her buff persists through swaps, her Ultimate supercharges the whole system, and she slots into virtually every team in the game regardless of element. How to Get Haniel in NTE

Haniel is completely free. She was available through the global pre-registration milestone reward when the game reached 30 million pre-registrations. Every account that claimed this reward has her in their roster automatically. She is also obtainable through main story progression and can appear on the Scarborough Fair gacha board for additional copies to raise her Awakenings.

Because she is an A-Rank character, landing duplicates through the gacha board is significantly more accessible than pulling S-Rank characters. Most active players will naturally accumulate enough copies to unlock several of her Awakenings over time without dedicated spending.

Haniel Playstyle – What Does Haniel Do?

Haniel is a set-and-swap buffer. Her rotation takes seconds to execute, and almost all of her value is delivered off-field while your main DPS does the work. She is not a stay-on-field carry — she is the character you swap in, deploy Hootie, fire her Ultimate if charged, and immediately swap back out to whoever is dealing damage.

The core of her kit is Hootie — her portable speaker. When Haniel uses her Redirect Skill, she throws Hootie onto the battlefield. Hootie does two things while active: it grants the entire team an ATK bonus scaled from Haniel’s own Base ATK, and it stacks toward Ensemble every time the active character lands a hit. At 4 stacks, Ensemble fires — dealing AoE Psyche DMG around Hootie and making the active character’s next attack hit for bonus damage. Hootie stays on the field even when you swap characters, so the ATK buff and Ensemble procs keep happening without Haniel present.

Her Ultimate — A Melody Named Haniel — puts her into the Paranormal Ace state. This layers a second ATK buff on top of Hootie’s existing one, pauses Hootie’s countdown timer for the duration, and upgrades every Ensemble proc into an Ensemble – Symphony, which deals significantly more damage and covers a wider area. Save the Ultimate for boss windows or high-priority burst phases to get the most out of the Symphony upgrade.

Understanding Hootie and the Ensemble Mechanic

Hootie is Haniel’s unique off-field deployment. Here is how it works step by step:

Haniel uses her Redirect Skill to throw Hootie onto the field. Hootie deals Psyche DMG on landing and immediately starts granting the team an ATK bonus.
While Hootie is active, every attack the active character lands gives Hootie 1 stack of Four-Part Harmony. Only 1 stack can be gained every 0.5 seconds, so fast multi-hit DPS characters like Daffodil fill the stacks quickly.
At 4 stacks, Ensemble triggers automatically — dealing AoE Psyche DMG around Hootie and giving the active character’s next attack a bonus damage window for 3 seconds.
Ensemble resets Hootie’s stack counter and the cycle starts again immediately.
Only 1 Hootie can exist at a time. Casting Haniel’s Skill again while Hootie is active refreshes its duration rather than creating a second one.
During Paranormal Ace (Ultimate), every Ensemble also triggers Ensemble – Symphony simultaneously — an enhanced version with more damage and a wider area around the active character instead of around Hootie.

The key insight is that Hootie’s value scales with how fast your DPS hits. Characters who attack rapidly — like Mint, Daffodil, or Nanally — fill Four-Part Harmony stacks at maximum speed and keep Ensemble firing constantly. Basic Attack – Genesse Technique

Fires magic projectiles in up to 5 consecutive hits, dealing Psyche DMG. Holding during the first hit charges a Paranormal Cannon — a powerful single forward shot. From the air, pressing the basic attack triggers Paranormal Entrance, a plunging attack scaling up to 200% DMG based on fall height. After a Critical Dodge during Genesse Technique, Ace Sweep triggers — Haniel dashes, fires a fully charged Paranormal Cannon, and reduces enemy Break. Basic attacks are not Haniel’s main field activity — she is mostly off-field — but the charged cannon is her best on-field damage option when you do keep her out.

Redirect Skill – Silent Moonlit Forest Guardian

Haniel throws Hootie onto the battlefield. On landing, Hootie deals Psyche DMG to the area. While active, the entire team gains an ATK bonus based on Haniel’s Base ATK. Hootie charges Four-Part Harmony stacks from active character hits, triggering Ensemble at 4 stacks. Hootie persists through character swaps. Casting this Skill again refreshes Hootie’s duration. This is the single most important ability in Haniel’s kit — use it at the start of every fight and refresh it before the timer runs out.

Ultimate – A Melody Named Haniel

Haniel releases an enhancement field and enters Paranormal Ace state. This adds a second ATK buff on top of Hootie’s existing buff, both scaling from Haniel’s Base ATK. While Paranormal Ace is active, Hootie’s duration timer pauses completely. Every Ensemble trigger also fires an Ensemble – Symphony simultaneously — dealing more damage in a wider area around the active character. This Ultimate is Haniel’s burst window. Cast it during boss fights when your main DPS is primed to do maximum damage, then swap back immediately to benefit from the doubled ATK buff and Symphony procs.

Support Skill / QTE – Easter Egg Time

Fires 1 magic projectile at the enemy dealing 1 instance of Psyche DMG. Simple and quick — this fires automatically on swap-in as a QTE and adds a small free Psyche hit to every rotation. It is not a major damage source but it is a clean free proc that contributes to Psyche reaction uptime.

Passive 1 – It’s Friendship! (Nova Enhancement)

When Nova ends on a target, all allies drain ATK from that target. The target loses ATK equal to 4% of Haniel’s Base ATK per ally, capped at 16% of her Base ATK total. Each ally gains ATK equal to 8% of Haniel’s Base ATK. The target cannot lose more than 20% of their initial ATK. Both parties’ stats restore after combat ends. This passive turns Nova — the Psyche + Chaos elemental reaction — into a team-wide ATK steroid. On teams that trigger Nova consistently, this is a significant passive damage amplifier that is entirely free once Haniel is in the lineup.

Passive 2 – It’s Bond!

Haniel gains 1 stack of Plot Armor each time the current character triggers Ensemble. Each Plot Armor stack increases the ricochet cap of her Paranormal Cannon. This passive rewards teams that trigger Ensemble frequently and builds toward a stronger Paranormal Cannon when Haniel does come back on field.

Haniel uses Solid-type Arcs only. Do not attempt to equip Liquid, Gas, Bose, or Plasma Arcs — they are not compatible with her.

Best Arc – Blow up the Crowd (S-Rank)

Blow up the Crowd is Haniel’s top Arc. While Haniel is off-field — which is almost always — the active character gains 10% ATK. Every time Haniel deals damage while off-field (through Ensemble procs), the active character gains an additional 2% ATK, stacking up to 4 times for a maximum of 8% extra ATK. Combined, this Arc delivers up to 18% ATK to your main DPS continuously throughout the fight, entirely from Haniel sitting off-field and letting Hootie work. It is a perfect fit for her set-and-swap playstyle and the clear best-in-slot option for maximizing team damage.

Best Free Arc – The Forgotten

The Forgotten is Haniel’s strongest free Arc option. It provides a large HP stat and gives Haniel 20% ATK when her HP is above 50% — which is almost always since she spends most of her time off-field and not getting hit. If HP drops below 50%, she instead gains 20% DEF. The ATK bonus increases her Base ATK directly, which raises the value of the ATK buff she passes to the team through Hootie. More Base ATK on Haniel means more ATK for everyone else. Run this if you do not have Blow up the Crowd.

Alternative – Your Happiness is Priceless

After casting her Ultimate, Haniel applies a random buff to the team — chosen from three possible effects. The randomness is a downside, but when the right buff lands it can be impactful. This Arc is situationally useful but less consistent than The Forgotten or Blow up the Crowd for most content.

Best – Speedy Hedgehog

Speedy Hedgehog is Haniel’s top Cartridge for her support role. The 2-piece bonus gives Charge Efficiency +12% — helping Haniel reach her Ultimate faster for more frequent Paranormal Ace windows. The 4-piece bonus is the main draw: after Haniel casts her Ultimate, all allies gain 15% ATK for 20 seconds. This is a flat team-wide ATK boost layered on top of Hootie’s existing buff and the Paranormal Ace second buff — all three stack together during the Ace window, making it the strongest ATK burst phase the team can produce. This Cartridge is purpose-built for Haniel’s support output and should be the first choice in almost all situations.

Alternative – Any ATK or Psyche DMG Set

If you do not have Speedy Hedgehog pieces yet, any Cartridge that boosts ATK% or Psyche DMG works as a filler. Focus on activating at least the 2-piece bonus of whichever set you use before farming for the full Speedy Hedgehog 4-piece.

Since Haniel’s team buff scales with her Base ATK, you want to maximize ATK on her console first. After that, fill remaining slots with:

Upgrade Haniel’s abilities in this order: Redirect Skill (Silent Moonlit Forest Guardian) → Ultimate (A Melody Named Haniel) → Basic Attack → Support Skill.

The Redirect Skill is Haniel’s most important ability — upgrading it increases Hootie’s ATK buff value and Ensemble damage. The Ultimate follows since it powers up the entire burst window. Basic Attacks come third for occasional on-field Psyche damage. The Support Skill is lowest priority since its single projectile QTE is a minor contribution to overall output.

How to Play Haniel – Rotation Guide

Haniel’s rotation is fast and simple. The goal is to deploy Hootie at the start of every fight, recharge her Ultimate, fire it during the best damage window, and keep Hootie refreshed so it never falls off:

Step 1: Open the fight by swapping to Haniel and immediately casting Silent Moonlit Forest Guardian to deploy Hootie. The team ATK buff activates the moment Hootie lands. Swap back to your main DPS right away.
Step 2: Play your main DPS normally. Every hit they land fills Hootie’s Four-Part Harmony stacks. At 4 stacks, Ensemble fires — a free AoE Psyche hit and a bonus damage window for the active character’s next attack.
Step 3: When Haniel’s Ultimate is fully charged, swap back to her and cast A Melody Named Haniel. This activates Paranormal Ace, layers the second ATK buff, pauses Hootie’s timer, and upgrades every Ensemble to Ensemble – Symphony. Swap back immediately to your DPS for the burst window.
Step 4: Continue DPS rotation during Paranormal Ace. Symphony procs deal significantly more damage than base Ensembles — this is Haniel’s highest-value phase.
Step 5: Before Hootie expires, swap to Haniel briefly and recast Silent Moonlit Forest Guardian to refresh it. With A2 and A6 Awakenings, this refresh window is very forgiving — gaps in Hootie coverage will be short even without perfect timing.

One important note: Haniel’s Skill cast and Ultimate can be interrupted by enemy attacks. Drop Hootie before pulling aggro, or wait for a stagger or pause in enemy attacks before casting. Getting interrupted wastes the Skill cast without deploying Hootie.

Best Team Compositions for Haniel in NTE

Best F2P Team – Haniel + Mint + Zero + Adler

This is the strongest all-free team for new players and covers every key role without any gacha investment. Mint is the main DPS, hitting fast enough to keep Hootie’s Ensemble stacks cycling quickly. Zero supplies Cosmos and instant Blossom triggers. Adler brings Incantation shielding and Scorch DoT for the Hexed reaction. Haniel buffs the whole team’s ATK through Hootie and adds Psyche for the Nova reaction alongside Adler’s Incantation. Every character is free from story progression or pre-registration rewards. If you have Nanally and Hathor from the gacha, Haniel slots directly into the premium Blossom triple-cycle team as the ATK buffer. Nanally is the main DPS and hits rapidly enough to chain Ensemble procs almost continuously. Zero handles Cosmos instant Esper Cycles. Hathor completes the Cosmos + Anima + Lakshana triple-cycle for the Charge reaction. Haniel’s Blow up the Crowd Arc feeds the active character extra ATK through every Ensemble proc, making Nanally’s burst phases significantly stronger. The team also benefits from Haniel’s It’s Friendship! Nova passive if Hathor’s Lakshana procs line up with the reaction chain.

Nova Chain Team – Haniel + Daffodil + Baicang + Sakiri

This team specifically targets the Nova and Discord reaction chain for boss content. Haniel’s Psyche pairs with Daffodil’s Chaos to trigger Nova. When Nova ends, Haniel’s It’s Friendship! passive drains ATK from the enemy and distributes it to all allies — a significant free ATK steroid that does not require any extra action. Baicang adds Incantation for Discord when combined with the Nova DoT already active. Sakiri provides a second ATK buff layer and crowd control. This is one of the stronger boss-clear setups in the game and Haniel is integral to making the Nova drain proc work correctly.

Universal Flex – Haniel in Any Team

Because Haniel’s ATK buff is element-agnostic, she works as a flex support in essentially any lineup that lacks a dedicated buffer. Any time your team needs an ATK boost but you do not have access to an S-Rank support like Sakiri, Haniel fills that slot cleanly. She does not compete for elemental reaction slots, she does not need field time, and her buff is always useful regardless of who is hitting. Is Haniel Worth Building in NTE?

Yes — Haniel is one of the highest-value free characters in NTE at launch. She is the only element-agnostic ATK buffer available for free, she requires almost no field time to deliver her value, and her Hootie mechanic works better the faster your DPS hits — which describes most strong DPS characters in the game.

Her personal damage is modest. She is not a DPS carry and her Psyche output from Ensemble procs is secondary to the ATK buff she provides.
