How to Summon & Swap Mounts in Crimson Desert

Summon and Swap Mounts in Crimson Desert with one button — hold Up on the D-Pad or H on keyboard to open the mount wheel, then switch between horses, beast mounts, and more with this full guide.

Learning to summon and swap mounts in Crimson Desert is essential, especially once you have multiple mounts registered — legendary horses, beast mounts, and the Blackstar Dragon all live in the same place. The game does not explain the system well, and many players get confused about why their new mount is not appearing after they register it. This guide covers exactly how to summon any mount, how to swap between them, how to change horses at the Stable, and what to do if your mount will not spawn.

TL;DR — Summon & Swap Mounts Quick Summary

  • Summon your active mount: press Up on the D-Pad (controller) or H (PC keyboard) — mount teleports to you instantly
  • Open the mount wheel to swap: hold Up on the D-Pad (controller) or hold F1 (PC keyboard) to open the Character and Mounts radial wheel
  • Use the Right Stick to highlight the mount slot in the wheel, then press R2 / RT to cycle through your registered mounts
  • The selected mount becomes your active mount and will be the one that spawns when you press Up
  • To swap between horses specifically, visit a Stablemaster NPC — the horse wheel only shows one horse at a time, and the Stable is where you assign a different one
  • Beast mounts (Silver Fang, White Bear, etc.) are swapped through the radial wheel only — they do not appear in the Stable
  • Mount cannot spawn if terrain is uneven, space is too tight, or you are standing on an Abyss Nexus — move to a flat open area
  • Beast mounts on a cooldown after being injured will not summon — wait for the timer to clear

How to Summon Your Mount

Summoning a mount in Crimson Desert is straightforward once you know the button. Press Up on the D-Pad (PlayStation and Xbox) or H (PC keyboard) to call your active mount. It does not matter where you left it or how far away it is — the mount teleports directly behind you and is ready to ride immediately.

This works for every mount type: horses, beast mounts like Silver Fang and the White Bear, and the Blackstar Dragon. The mount that appears is always whichever one is currently set as active in the radial wheel.

Mounting and Dismounting Controls

Once your mount is beside you:

  • PlayStation: press Triangle to mount and Triangle again to dismount
  • Xbox: press Y to mount and Y again to dismount
  • PC: press F to mount and F again to dismount

Note: mounting and dismounting use the same button as some interaction prompts. If you press the wrong button near your horse, you may end up punching it instead of mounting. Make sure the mount prompt is visible on screen before pressing.

To sprint on your mount, tap the run button twice rather than holding it — this applies to horses and beast mounts alike.

How to Open the Mount Wheel and Swap Mounts

The radial Character and Mounts wheel is where you switch between all your registered mounts. Here is how to open it and make a swap:

On PlayStation / Xbox (Controller)

  1. Hold Up on the D-Pad — this opens the Character and Mounts radial wheel (a brief press just summons your current mount; you need to hold it to open the full wheel)
  2. Use the Right Stick to move the cursor and highlight the mount slot in the wheel
  3. Press R2 (PlayStation) / RT (Xbox) to cycle through your registered mounts within that slot
  4. Once the mount you want is highlighted and selected, close the wheel — that mount is now your active mount
  5. Press Up on the D-Pad once to summon it

On PC (Keyboard)

  1. Hold F1 to open the Character and Mounts radial wheel
  2. Move your mouse to highlight the mount slot
  3. Use the scroll wheel to cycle through your registered mounts in that slot
  4. Release F1 to close the wheel and confirm your selection
  5. Press H to summon the newly selected mount

How the Mount Slot Works

The Character and Mounts wheel has a single mount slot. All of your registered mounts — horses and beast mounts — cycle through that one slot using R2 / RT (controller) or the scroll wheel (PC). Only the mount currently showing in that slot will be summoned when you press the call button.

This means if you have five mounts registered and want to ride the White Bear, you need to cycle the slot until the White Bear appears before pressing the summon button. Think of it as a quick-select system — whatever is loaded into the slot is what you get.

How to Swap Between Horses at the Stable

Beast mounts are swapped entirely through the radial wheel described above. Horses work differently. If you have multiple horses stabled and want to change which horse appears in the mount slot, you need to visit a Stablemaster NPC.

  1. Travel to any Stable — the closest one is located northeast of Hernand Town. For all stable locations, see our all stable locations guide
  2. Interact with the Stablemaster and select Manage Horses
  3. Select the horse you want to make active for your character
  4. In the submenu, select your character’s portrait to assign that horse to your character
  5. Press Space (PC) or X / A (controller) to confirm — keep your cursor inside the selection box when pressing confirm, as the menu is spatially context-sensitive

After assigning a horse at the Stable, it will appear in the mount slot in your radial wheel and can be summoned normally.

Note: legendary beast mounts do not appear in the Stable at all. They are accessed exclusively through the radial wheel. Do not go looking for Silver Fang or the White Bear in the Stable menu — they will never show there.

How to Add a New Legendary Mount to the Wheel

If you have just unlocked a new beast mount and it is not appearing in your radial wheel, you may have missed a step. Here is the full process for getting a beast mount into your wheel:

  1. Hunt the legendary creature, kill it, and skin the carcass — this is mandatory. Skipping the skinning step means the trophy material does not drop
  2. Take the trophy item to any Witch NPC
  3. Select Craft Abyss Gear, then press R2 / RT to reach the Special Items tab
  4. Craft the Sigil of Solidarity for that specific animal
  5. Open your Inventory, navigate to Key Items | Treasure, find the Sigil of Solidarity, and select Use / Consume
  6. The mount is now permanently registered and will appear in your radial wheel mount slot

The mount will not appear in the wheel until you consume the Sigil from your inventory. Many players stop at the crafting step and wonder why the mount is not available — consuming the Sigil is the final required step.

Mount Summon Restrictions — Why Your Mount Won’t Spawn

Mounts cannot always spawn wherever you are standing. If you press the summon button and nothing happens, one of these is usually the reason:

  • Uneven terrain — mounts cannot spawn on steep slopes, cliffs, or rocky ground. Move to a flat, open surface and try again
  • Not enough space — mounts need a clear area to teleport into. If you are in a narrow corridor, tight room, or enclosed space, move somewhere more open
  • Abyss Nexus — mounts cannot spawn on top of or immediately next to an Abyss Nexus fast travel point. Move away from it first
  • Beast mount on cooldown — legendary beast mounts (Silver Fang, White Bear, Snowwhite Deer, Ibex, Rock Tusk Warthog) can become injured in combat. While injured they cannot be summoned and go on a cooldown timer. Wait for the cooldown to clear, then try summoning again
  • Wrong mount active — if you open the radial wheel and a different mount is loaded into the slot, you will summon that one instead. Check the wheel before summoning
  • Patch 1.04 bug (fixed) — Patch 1.04.00 introduced a bug where mounts could not be summoned at all. This was patched in the 1.04.01 hotfix on 23rd April 2026. If you are on a fully updated game, this should not affect you

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is my legendary mount not in the radial wheel after I got the Sigil?

You need to consume the Sigil of Solidarity from your inventory. Crafting it at the Witch is not enough — open your Inventory, go to Key Items | Treasure, find the Sigil, and select Use. That is the step that registers it in the wheel.

Can you have multiple mounts active at once?

No. Only one mount can be active and summoned at a time. The radial wheel has a single mount slot, and only the mount currently loaded in that slot can be called.

Do beast mounts appear in the Stable?

No. Legendary beast mounts (Silver Fang, White Bear, Snowwhite Deer, Icicle Edge Alpine Ibex, Rock Tusk Warthog) do not appear in the Stable menu. They are managed entirely through the radial Character and Mounts wheel. Only horses appear in the Stable.

How do you swap horses specifically?

You must visit a Stablemaster NPC, select the horse you want, then assign it to your character by selecting your character portrait in the submenu and confirming. The closest Stable is northeast of Hernand Town.

Why does my mount keep getting a cooldown after combat?

Beast mounts can be injured during combat, which places them on a cooldown before they can be summoned again. This does not happen to horses. Wait for the cooldown timer to run out, then summon again. Keeping beast mounts out of direct sustained fire helps reduce the frequency of this happening.

Can you rename your mounts?

Yes — horses can be renamed at any Stablemaster. Beast mounts cannot currently be renamed. For the full process on renaming horses and pets, see our guide on how to change pet names in Crimson Desert.
