TL;DR
- The Suspicious Ceiling is on the second floor of the House of Hesperides — look for the Cryoculus visible near the railings as your landmark.
- Use a Grappling Gun Prime Ice Construct at the designated spot to pull down the ceiling and create a path into the Secret Chamber above.
- Inside the chamber, find four inactive Cryo Totems surrounded by Ikhor dolls — the number of dolls around each totem tells you the activation order.
- Activate totems using ranged Cryo attacks only — approaching too closely breaks the totems and resets the puzzle.
- Correct totem order: Northwest (1 doll) → Southeast (2 dolls) → North (3rd) → South (4th).
- The completed puzzle unlocks a door leading to a Precious Chest, and a wall behind it hides a second area with an Exquisite Chest, Radiant Spincrystal, and Cryoculus.
What Is the Suspicious Ceiling Quest in Genshin Impact?
The Suspicious Ceiling quest — which leads to the Secret Chamber in the Ceiling challenge — is one of the most layered hidden puzzles inside the House of Hesperides in Fellfrost Peak, Snezhnaya. It is a two-stage challenge: first you need to physically break into a sealed chamber above the second floor using a Grappling Gun Prime Ice Construct, then solve a four-totem Cryo monument puzzle using clues left by Ikhor dolls scattered around the room.
Getting both stages right rewards some of the best loot in the entire mansion — a Precious Chest, an Exquisite Chest, a Radiant Spincrystal, and a Cryoculus. It is also one of the easier challenges to miss entirely, since the entry point is not an obvious door or staircase but a section of ceiling that looks slightly different from the rest.
This quest is on the same floor as the Mountain Paintings Puzzle (Bedroom Quest) and the Elegant Snegurochka Statue Puzzle — all three can be cleared in a single visit to the second floor. For the full list of every mansion challenge across all floors, see the All House of Hesperides Challenges Guide.
Prerequisites — How to Access the House of Hesperides
Before you can reach the Suspicious Ceiling, you need the mansion open and the second floor accessible:
- Complete Archon Quest Prologue: Act III – Song of the Dragon and Freedom to unlock Snezhnaya and receive the Eye of Graeae gadget.
- Progress through Archon Quest Chapter VII: Act I – Everwinter Without Mercy and complete Gunfire in the Silent Lands to unlock Snezhnayan world quests.
- Start the Hesperides of Love and Hate world quest chain and obtain the Invitation to the “Ritual” to gain entry to the mansion.
- Once inside, take the southern staircase from the Main Floor to reach the second floor. The Suspicious Ceiling is located in the upper area of the second floor, near a section of railing where a Cryoculus is visible.
Make sure your Eye of Graeae is charged with Kresnik Energy before heading up. You need enough to build a Grappling Gun construct to break through the ceiling. Refill outside from Mini Kresnik Torches or Kresnik Kristall Ores if your energy is low. You will also need a character capable of dealing Cryo damage at range — Ganyu, Kaeya, Shenhe, or the Cryo Traveler all work well.
Where to Find the Suspicious Ceiling
After reaching the second floor of the House of Hesperides via the southern staircase, move through the upper floor until you reach a section near the railings where you can spot a Cryoculus floating above. This Cryoculus hovering near the ceiling is your clearest landmark for locating the Suspicious Ceiling section.
Look up at the ceiling above this railing area. The section of ceiling here has a slightly different texture or coloring compared to the rest — this is the Suspicious Ceiling. You cannot climb into it from below and you cannot open it by interacting with it directly. The only way through is with a Grappling Gun.

Step 1 — Break Through the Ceiling with a Grappling Gun
Stand near the railing below the Suspicious Ceiling section and open your Prime Ice Construct menu. Build a Grappling Gun construct at the designated spot below the ceiling. When placed correctly, the Grappling Gun fires upward and pulls down part of the ceiling, simultaneously lowering a platform from the concealed chamber above.
The lowered platform now gives you a climbable or jumpable route up into the Secret Chamber. Use the platform to ascend into the hidden room above the second floor. You will also be able to collect the Cryoculus visible near the railing at this point — grab it before moving into the chamber.
Step 2 — Understand the Ikhor Doll Clues
Once inside the Secret Chamber above the ceiling, you will find two things: a set of small Ikhor dolls arranged near the walls, and four inactive Cryo Totem monuments positioned around the room. The Ikhor dolls are the key to solving the puzzle.
Each Cryo Totem has a specific number of Ikhor dolls placed around or near it. The number of dolls tells you the activation order of that totem — the totem with the fewest dolls goes first, and so on up to the totem with the most dolls going last. Count the dolls around each monument carefully before touching any of them.
Critical warning: The Cryo Totems in this chamber are wrapped in the Tsar’s White Birch — a special material that causes the totem to break apart if you approach it too closely. You must activate all four totems using ranged Cryo attacks from a safe distance. Walking directly up to a totem and using a close-range attack will destroy it and reset the puzzle, forcing you to start the sequence over.

Step 3 — Cryo Totem Activation Order (Secret Chamber in the Ceiling Solution)
Activate the four Cryo Totems in this exact sequence using ranged Cryo attacks:
- 1st — Northwest Totem: This monument has one Ikhor doll around it. Activate it first using a ranged Cryo skill or attack from a distance.
- 2nd — Southeast Totem: This monument has two Ikhor dolls around it. Activate it second.
- 3rd — North Totem: Activate the northern monument third.
- 4th — South Totem: Activate the southern monument last to complete the sequence.
Once all four Cryo Totems are activated in the correct order, the sequence registers as complete and the locked door nearby unlocks automatically.
Step 4 — Collect the Precious Chest and Find the Hidden Wall
Walk through the now-open doorway and collect the Precious Chest waiting inside. This is your primary reward for solving the Secret Chamber in the Ceiling puzzle and contains Primogems, Intricately Patterned Buttons, level-up materials, and other quality items.
Do not leave immediately. The wall behind or beside the Precious Chest conceals a second secret area that becomes accessible after the puzzle is solved. Look for a section of wall that has shifted or opened as part of the totem completion. Step into this hidden space to find:
- Exquisite Chest — a second chest in the same chamber
- Radiant Spincrystal — a collectible music item in Genshin Impact
- Cryoculus — a collectible needed to upgrade the Cryo Statue of the Seven in Snezhnaya
Collecting all of these makes the Suspicious Ceiling one of the highest-reward hidden challenges in the entire House of Hesperides — better loot per challenge than almost any other single room in the mansion.
Full Reward Summary
- Precious Chest — from behind the door after solving the Cryo Totem sequence
- Exquisite Chest — in the hidden area behind the wall beyond the Precious Chest
- Radiant Spincrystal — in the same hidden area
- Cryoculus — collectible in the hidden area; also visible near the railing below on the way up
About the Ikhor Dolls
Ikhor dolls are a form of Snezhnayan folk craft scattered throughout the House of Hesperides and the surrounding Fellfrost Peak area. They resemble small figurines and serve a decorative and cultural purpose in Snezhnayan homes and estates. In the context of the Secret Chamber in the Ceiling, Grand Duchess Pavlina or whoever designed this chamber used the dolls intentionally as puzzle clues — their placement around each Cryo Totem encodes the correct activation sequence for anyone patient enough to count them before striking.
The Tsar’s White Birch wrapping around the totems is another piece of Snezhnayan world-building — birch wood from the Tsar’s sacred groves is used ceremonially across the nation, and its presence here suggests the chamber was sealed with intentional design rather than simple abandonment.
Tips for the Suspicious Ceiling Quest
- Use the Cryoculus as your landmark. If you cannot find the Suspicious Ceiling section on the second floor, look for the Cryoculus floating near the railing. That is always directly below the ceiling entry point. Once you spot the Cryoculus, the ceiling above it is your target.
- Place the Grappling Gun precisely. The build menu will highlight the correct placement spot for the Grappling Gun. If the ceiling does not pull down after you build it, the construct is in the wrong position — dismantle it and rebuild it slightly closer to the highlighted area.
- Count the Ikhor dolls before firing a single attack. Walk around the chamber first and note how many dolls surround each totem before you activate anything. Rushing in and guessing the order is how you end up breaking a totem and having to reset. Take thirty seconds to map out the counts before starting.
- Bring a long-range Cryo character. Ganyu is ideal — her Charged Attack has enormous range and deals Cryo damage easily from across the room. Kaeya and Shenhe also work. The Cryo Traveler’s Elemental Skill can reach the totems if aimed correctly. Avoid characters who require melee range to deal Cryo damage.
- If a totem breaks, reset and re-enter. Breaking a totem by approaching too close resets the puzzle. Leave the chamber, re-enter, and start the sequence again from the Northwest Totem. The puzzle does not permanently fail — it simply resets on a totem break.
- Check behind the Precious Chest before leaving. Many players grab the Precious Chest and teleport away, missing the hidden wall and its Exquisite Chest, Radiant Spincrystal, and Cryoculus entirely. Always sweep the full room after the chest spawns.
- Do the Mountain Paintings and Snegurochka Statue puzzles on the same visit. All three second floor challenges share the same floor. Clearing the Mountain Paintings Puzzle and the Elegant Snegurochka Statue Puzzle in the same trip as the Suspicious Ceiling maximises your chest haul per visit.
Other House of Hesperides Second Floor Challenges
The second floor of the House of Hesperides has several interconnected hidden challenges. After the Suspicious Ceiling, here are the other two on the same floor:
