What Are Alpha Pals in Palworld?
Palworld is available on Steam, Xbox, and PlayStation. Alpha Pals are bigger, tougher versions of regular Pals. They appear as field bosses, at the end of dungeons, and — since a key patch — as a rare result from hatching eggs. When you own one, the main benefit is extra HP. Wild Alpha Pals also take reduced damage from players, but that damage reduction does not carry over when you catch and use them. The key thing is they are larger, have more health, and drop Ancient Civilization Parts or even Legendary Schematics when butchered.
Prior to version 0.2.4.0, Alpha Pals had no stat advantage over regular Pals at all. That has changed. Alpha Pals now have roughly 1.2x the HP of a regular wild spawn at the same species level. They also give more XP when defeated in the wild. All Legendary Pals that spawn in the overworld appear as Alpha Pals.
Can You Breed Alpha Pals in Palworld?
Yes. Any egg produced at a Breeding Farm has a 5% base chance of hatching as an Alpha Pal. This is completely independent of the parents — Alpha status is not inherited. It is a random roll that happens when the egg is produced. That said, there are specific methods to increase those odds significantly, which this guide covers in full.
Alpha eggs are always Huge-sized, so you can spot them easily before you even incubate them.
How To Set Up Breeding For Alpha Pals in Palworld
Step 1 — Unlock the Breeding Farm
Reach Technology Level 19 and spend 2 Technology Points to unlock the Breeding Farm. You earn Technology Points by defeating Alpha World Bosses, Dungeon Bosses, and Tower Bosses. Once unlocked, build the farm inside your base using 100 Wood, 20 Stone, and 50 Fiber. Leave enough space around it so assigned Pals can path in and out without getting stuck. Step 2 — Unlock the Egg Incubator
You also need an Egg Incubator to hatch breeding eggs. This unlocks at Ancient Technology Level 7. Build it near your Breeding Farm so you can quickly move eggs over. Make sure the incubator temperature matches the egg type — it will tell you if it is too hot or too cold.
Step 3 — Prepare Your Cake
Your Breeding Farm will not produce any eggs without Cake placed in its chest. Place the Cake directly into the chest on the right side of the farm. Cake stored elsewhere in your base will not count. The basic Cake requires Red Berries, Flour (from Wheat processed at a Mill), Eggs, Milk, and Honey. Set up a Ranch with Chikipi for eggs and Mozzarina for milk to automate most of this. In Palworld 1.0, there are also upgraded cake types like Mushroom Cake and Vegetable Cake that can help with hidden stats and double egg output — but for Alpha farming, any standard Cake works fine.
Step 4 — Assign Your Breeding Pair
You need one male and one female Pal assigned to the farm. The species combination you pick determines what Pal hatches. Use a breeding calculator to plan your pairs — each parent has a hidden breeding power number between 1 and 1500, and the game averages those numbers to determine the offspring species. Method 1 — Use Alpha Pals As Parents
The first and most straightforward method to increase Alpha egg chances is using two Alpha Pals as the breeding parents. When both parents are Alpha variants, the chance of them producing an Alpha egg goes up compared to the base 5% rate. You do not need to breed the same species — just make sure both parents are the Alpha version of their respective Pals.

Method 2 — Broncherry and Broncherry Aqua Partner Skills
This is the most powerful method in Palworld 1.0. Broncherry and Broncherry Aqua both have Partner Skills that can convert a regular breeding egg into an Alpha egg when you pick it up. The conversion happens the moment the egg enters your inventory, so your breeding pair stays the same — only your pickup party matters.
The two effects stack. With both Broncherry and Broncherry Aqua fully condensed in your party, you can push the Alpha conversion rate up to 100%. That means every egg you pick up from your Breeding Farm becomes an Alpha egg.
How To Unlock Broncherry’s Partner Skill
You need to craft Broncherry’s Saddle first to activate its Partner Skill. Here is how:
- Reach Technology Level 33 and catch a Broncherry
- Spend 2 Technology Points to unlock the Broncherry Saddle in the Technology menu
- Craft it at a Pal Gear Workbench using: 20 Leather, 15 Ingots, 20 Paldium Fragments, and 30 Fiber
Broncherry spawns naturally south of the Jormuntide fast travel point. It also appears as an Alpha field boss near the Sea Breeze Archipelago Reef. How To Unlock Broncherry Aqua’s Partner Skill
Broncherry Aqua’s saddle is a bit more expensive. Here is what you need:
- Reach Technology Level 44 and catch a Broncherry Aqua
- Unlock the Broncherry Aqua Saddle in the Technology menu
- Craft it at a Pal Gear Workbench using: 24 Leather, 36 Fiber, 20 Refined Ingots, and 24 Paldium Fragments
Broncherry Aqua is found underground in a cave system near the river on the east side of its map marker. Look for wooden scaffolding at a cave entrance along a cliff face. It is a Water-type variant, and its Partner Skill is slightly more effective than Broncherry’s for Alpha conversion.
You can also breed Broncherry Aqua by pairing a Fuack with a Broncherry if catching the wild version gives you trouble.
Method 3 — Add Grintale For Bonus Eggs
Grintale’s Partner Skill gives you a 50% chance to receive an extra egg whenever you pick one up. At full condensation, that rises to 75%. This does not directly create Alpha eggs, but it multiplies the number of eggs you collect per breeding cycle — which means more chances to roll an Alpha.
To activate Grintale’s Partner Skill, unlock and craft its saddle. The Grintale Saddle unlocks at Technology Level 19 and costs 10 Leather plus 10 Paldium Fragments — much cheaper than the Broncherry saddles.
The ideal pickup party is Broncherry + Broncherry Aqua + Grintale all active in your party at the same time. Do not pick up breeding eggs with any other party. Swap to this three-Pal party right before you collect eggs from the farm. Keep in mind that extra copies of the same Pal do not stack — you need one of each, not multiples of the same species.
How To Farm Alpha Pals Efficiently
Here is the full setup for a working Alpha farm:
- Set your breeding pair — use two Alpha Pals of the species you want to target
- Stock Cake in the breeding chest — keep a large supply so the farm never stops
- Do not collect eggs right away — wait until you have your three-Pal party ready
- Switch to your Alpha pickup party — Broncherry, Broncherry Aqua, Grintale all active
- Pick up the eggs yourself — the conversion rolls happen when the egg enters your inventory
- Incubate and hatch — Alpha eggs are always Huge-sized, so you will know right away
This system lets you choose the species and passives through your breeding pair, then let the pickup party handle the Alpha conversion roll. The two systems work independently. Use Them in Combat and as Mounts
Bred Alpha Pals make great combat companions thanks to their higher HP. If you breed an Alpha version of a strong combat Pal, you get the benefits of your carefully chosen passives plus the extra survivability of the Alpha stat boost. One thing to keep in mind — Alpha Pals are physically larger. This means they can get stuck in tight corridors more easily and take more hits from AoE attacks like area-of-effect moves that scatter across a surface. For open-world combat and boss fights they shine, but in tight spaces a regular Pal can sometimes be more practical.
Butcher Them For Legendary Schematics
One of the best reasons to farm bred Alpha Pals is loot. When you butcher a bred Alpha Pal at the Meat Cleaver station, it rolls that species’ Alpha drop table. This can include Legendary Schematic chances for species that have one. The drop rate for Legendary Schematics sits at around 3% per roll, which sounds low — but butchering gives you a second roll on top of your catch roll, essentially doubling your chances per encounter. Pass Down IVs Through Breeding
Alpha Pals tend to have strong hidden IVs — the underlying stat values that determine how powerful a Pal becomes as it levels. Even if you do not keep the Alpha itself, breeding with it as a parent passes those IVs down to offspring. The baby’s IVs will land somewhere between the two parents’ values. So an Alpha parent with near-maximum IVs is a great foundation for a breeding chain aimed at getting a perfect stat Pal — even if the child is not an Alpha. Tips and Common Mistakes
- Do not pick up eggs with your regular party. The Alpha conversion from Broncherry and Grintale only triggers if they are in your active party when you collect the egg. Swap parties before every pickup run.
- Alpha status is not inherited. Using Alpha parents does not pass Alpha status to the baby — it only slightly increases the odds of the egg being an Alpha. The roll is always independent.
- Condensing your Pals matters. The Partner Skills of Broncherry, Broncherry Aqua, and Grintale become stronger as you condense them using the Pal Condenser. Aim to fully condense all three for maximum efficiency.
