What Are the Black Lantern Batman and Dark Knights of Steel Suits?
LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight has over 100 suits for Batman alone, but two of the most striking are locked behind an account-linking system rather than normal in-game progression. These are the Black Lantern Batman and the Dark Knights of Steel Batman — both free, both available from day one, and both tied to an active HBO Max subscription.
These are not purchasable with studs, not earned through missions, and not hidden in the open world. You either link the account or you do not get them. The good news is the process is fast and takes less than five minutes once you have an HBO Max account ready.
What Is the Dark Knights of Steel Suit?
The Dark Knights of Steel Batman suit is based on the DC Comics limited series of the same name. Dark Knights of Steel was a 12-issue Elseworlds story published from 2021 to 2023. It imagines a medieval fantasy version of the DC universe, with Batman, Superman, and other heroes reimagined as knights in a high-fantasy kingdom. Batman in that series wears dark armour with a full knight aesthetic — and that is exactly what this in-game suit reflects. It gives Batman a heavily armoured, knightly look that stands out sharply from most of the game’s other suits. The in-game version is close to accurate, though it does not include Batman’s sword from the comic.
What Is the Black Lantern Batman Suit?
The Black Lantern Batman suit is inspired by Blackest Night, a massive DC Comics crossover event published in 2009–2010. The Blackest Night storyline introduced the Black Lantern Corps — reanimated dead versions of heroes and villains powered by a black power ring. Batman himself appeared as a Black Lantern during the event. The suit in-game carries that dark, energy-fuelled look from the comic: a deep black costume with corrupted power ring design elements. It is inspired by HBO’s Lanterns series, which is connected to the same DC lore. This is one of the darkest and most visually unique suits in the entire game.

What You Need Before You Start
- A WB Games account — free to create. This is the same account used to claim the Golden Age Batsuit. If you already have one from a previous WB game, you are already set.
- An active HBO Max subscription — the cheapest plan is Basic with Ads at $10.99 per month. You can cancel after the suits are claimed if you do not want to keep the subscription.
- LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight installed on your platform. You need to be in-game to complete the linking step from inside the game menu.

How to Get the Black Lantern Batman and Dark Knights of Steel Suits – Step by Step
Step 1 – Create or Log Into Your HBO Max Account
If you do not have an HBO Max account, go to hbomax.com and sign up. The cheapest available plan is Basic with Ads at $10.99 per month. You do not need a premium plan — any active subscription will work for the suit unlock. If you already have HBO Max, simply make sure you know your login credentials before moving on.
Step 2 – Launch LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight
Open the game on your platform of choice. From the main menu, go to Settings, then navigate to the Extras tab. Inside Extras, look for the option labeled “HBO Max Account – Link Account”. Select it.
Step 3 – Link Your HBO Max Account
After selecting the link option, the game gives you two choices: scan the QR code shown on screen with your phone, or click “Open Website” to be taken to the WB Games account page directly.
Both routes take you to the same place — your WB Games account dashboard. Once there, log into your WB Games account if prompted, then look for the Connections section. Find the HBO Max logo and click “Connect”. Sign in with your HBO Max credentials when asked and grant permission for the link to be established.
Alternatively, if you prefer to do this outside the game first: log into your HBO Max account directly, go to Account Settings, select Connections, and choose your WB Games account from there. Either direction works — the important thing is that both accounts end up linked.
Step 4 – Return to the Game and Claim Your Suits
Once the link is confirmed, you will see an “Account Link Complete” screen. Return to the main menu in-game and load back into your save. Both suits will now be available in Batman’s wardrobe automatically. There is no additional redeem code or extra step needed. The suits unlock the moment the accounts are successfully linked.
You should also see a pop-up notification when you next load the game confirming that new exclusive content has been unlocked.
Step 5 – Equip the Suits
To equip either suit in-game:
- Press Options / Start to open the menu.
- Navigate to Characters.
- Hover over Batman.
- Press Square (PS5) or X (Xbox) to open the outfit selector.
- Scroll through Batman’s wardrobe and select either the Dark Knights of Steel or Black Lantern suit.
You can switch suits at any time in the open world — you are not locked into one for missions or story sections.
Alternative Method – Link from Your HBO Account First
If you would rather handle the link outside the game entirely, here is the alternative route that produces the same result:
- Log into your HBO Max account on a browser or the HBO Max app.
- Go to Account Settings.
- Select Connections.
- Find the WB Games option and click Connect.
- Log in with your WB Games credentials and approve the link.
- Launch LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight and load your save. The suits will be in your wardrobe.
Do These Suits Count Toward 100% Completion?
No. The Black Lantern Batman and Dark Knights of Steel suits are both classified as DLC skins. They sit outside the base game’s completion checklist, exactly like the Golden Knight Batman suit. You do not need them to earn the “I’m not wearing hockey pads” Silver trophy for unlocking all suits, and they do not affect your progress toward the Platinum on PS5 or 100% on Xbox.

Can You Cancel HBO Max After Getting the Suits?
Yes. The suits unlock the moment the link is established and confirmed. They are permanently added to your wardrobe. Cancelling your HBO Max subscription after claiming the suits does not remove them from the game. However, keep in mind that if any future content or updates require an active HBO Max link, you would need to resubscribe.
As it stands, both suits are a one-time claim. You link once, get both, and they are yours to keep regardless of your subscription status going forward.
What Other Free Suits Are Available?

Troubleshooting – Suits Not Appearing After Linking
If you completed the linking process but the suits are not showing up in your wardrobe, try these steps:
- Fully close and relaunch the game. The suits sometimes need a fresh session to appear. Do not just return to the main menu — close the application entirely and restart it.
- Verify the link was successful. Go back to the Extras settings in-game and check whether the HBO Max option now shows a connected status. If it still prompts you to link, the process did not complete and you should try again.
- Check your HBO Max subscription is active. If your subscription lapsed or payment failed, the link may not process correctly. Confirm your subscription is current before re-attempting.
- Try the in-game linking route if you used the browser route (or vice versa). Some players find one method works more reliably than the other on their platform.
