Kite Man Mission Overview — Gotham Water & Power

The Kite Man mission is the second mission of Chapter 3 in LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight. It starts with a Cluemaster puzzle room in Newtown before moving into the main area — Gotham Water & Power, a large industrial plant overrun by one of Poison Ivy’s giant plants.

Batman and Robin need to destroy the plant’s pods and eventually rescue Kite Man. The mission is fairly short, and unlike some others in the game, there are no WayneTech Caches to worry about. You are only hunting for Kites and one Red Brick.

Here is the full breakdown of what to collect:

  • 5 Kites — Hidden throughout the Water Treatment area and Generator Room
  • 1 Red Brick — The Power Plant modifier, found through a co-op style puzzle near the start of the level

All 5 Kite Locations in the Kite Man Mission

The Kites are split between two main areas of the level. The first two are in the Water Treatment section. The final three are spread across the Generator Room. We cover them all in the order you will encounter them.

Kite 1 — Water Treatment Area, Right of the First Plant Pod

Once you enter the Water Treatment area, you will need to cross three pipes. Robin helps you get across by managing the water flow. After crossing, look to the right of the first plant pod. The first Kite is sitting right there in plain sight — just do not rush past it.

Kite 2 — Red Vent Before the Pipe Slide

Still in the Water Treatment area, before you jump into the pipe slide to move forward, look up and grapple to the red-lit vent on the wall. Use Batman’s grappling hook to reach it. The second Kite is sitting inside that vent. This one is easy to miss because most players head straight for the slide.

Kite 3 — Generator Room, Turn Around at the Door

After leaving the Water Treatment section, you will use Robin to pry open a door leading into the Generator Room. As soon as you step inside, immediately turn around. The third Kite is right there behind you near the entrance. It is one of the most commonly missed collectibles in this mission because players tend to walk forward and never look back.

Kite 4 — Generator Room, Next to the Furnace

Continue through the Generator Room. You will follow vines along the path until you spot a worker tied to a ladder. Turn right from there and drop down to the lower platform below. The fourth Kite is right in front of the furnace on that lower level. Jump down, grab it, and then head back up to continue.

Kite 5 — Inside the Vent with the Third Plant Pod

Keep moving through the Generator Room using the air vents to climb higher. Eventually you will reach a vent that contains one of the plant pods you need to destroy. Before or after destroying it, look to the left side of the vent grate. The fifth and final Kite is stuck there. Grab it and you are done with all five.

Grabbing all five earns you the Kites Batcave Trophy. To see every trophy and display item you can collect for your Batcave, visit our LEGO Batman Legacy of the Dark Knight Batcave guide.

Red Brick Location — Power Plant Modifier

The Red Brick in the Kite Man mission is called the Power Plant modifier. Like all Red Bricks in this game, it unlocks a new color scheme for Batman and Robin’s costumes. The puzzle to get it requires you to coordinate between both characters.

Where Is the Red Brick Puzzle Room?

From the very start of the mission, before going toward the Water Treatment area, look to the back-left corner of the starting zone. You will see a locked door next to a large coolant container. A row of Gold Studs on the ground leads you right to it. This is easy to overlook because the main mission pulls you in the opposite direction.

You can grab this Red Brick at any point during the mission — you do not need to wait for a specific story moment. It is best to do it early so you do not forget.

Step-by-Step — How to Get the Power Plant Red Brick

  1. Go to the back-left corner of the starting area and find the locked door near the large coolant jar.
  2. Switch to Robin and use his strength to pry the door open. Batman cannot interact with this lock.
  3. Inside the room, use Robin’s Cable Launcher to connect the blue battery cell on the central console to the fuse box on the right wall. This powers the ventilation fan in the room.
  4. On the left side of the room, have Robin insert his battle staff (or use the staff/lever console) to raise the central platform, which shuts the fan hatch beneath it.
  5. While the hatch is shut, switch to Batman and jump onto the fan. Batman will rise up on the air current and hover near the ceiling.
  6. Switch back to Robin and pull the platform back down to reopen the hatch. Batman will land on the upper level where the Red Brick is waiting. Walk over to collect it.

This puzzle is one of the more clever ones in the game. The key is keeping Robin on the lever at the right time so Batman can float up on the air vent. If you are playing solo, switch quickly between characters. If you are playing co-op, one player handles Robin and the other controls Batman. See our how to play co-op in LEGO Batman Legacy of the Dark Knight guide if you need help setting up split-screen.

What If You Miss a Kite or the Red Brick?

No problem at all. Once you reach Mission 6: Shreck’s Department Store and restore the Batcave, you can replay any earlier mission. Head to the Batcave, interact with the computer near the red Bat-phone at the top of the room, and select the Kite Man mission to jump back in.

For full details on how this works, see our how to replay missions in LEGO Batman Legacy of the Dark Knight guide.

Just Finished Two-Face? Here Is What Comes Next

The Kite Man mission directly follows the Two-Face mission in Chapter 3. If you just wrapped up Haly’s Circus and are moving forward, make sure you also grabbed everything there. Our LEGO Batman Legacy of the Dark Knight Two-Face all collectibles guide covers all 5 Coins and the Clown Red Brick in full detail.
