NTE Pity and Gacha System Explained

Learn how the NTE pity and gacha system works — from Scarborough Fair board mechanics and pull rates to soft pity, hard pity, currency types, and weapon banners. Full breakdown inside.

TL;DR

  • NTE’s gacha system is called Scarborough Fair — it uses a dice board instead of a traditional pull screen.
  • Hard pity is at 90 pulls. Soft pity (Board Modification) kicks in at 70 pulls, raising S-Class rates from ~1% to nearly 20%.
  • There is no 50/50 — every S-Class pull from a Limited Banner is guaranteed to be the featured character.
  • Character pity carries over between banners. Cosmetic pity does NOT.
  • There are 4 currencies: Annulith, Solid Dice, Fabricated Dice, and Tri-Keys.
  • The Standard Board gives a free S-Class selector after 50 pulls (40 with beginner discount).
  • The Weapon Banner guarantees a featured Arc within 80 pulls.

Neverness to Everness does a lot of things differently from most gacha games — and the pull system is one of the biggest differences. Instead of a simple animation and reveal, you are rolling dice and moving around a board. It looks fun, but if you do not understand how it works, you can waste a lot of currency without realizing it.

This guide breaks down everything you need to know — the board mechanics, soft and hard pity, how currencies work, what carries over between banners, and how to spend smart as a free-to-play player.

You can play NTE on PC via the official Neverness to Everness website, on mobile through the Google Play Store, and on console via the PlayStation Store.

What Is Scarborough Fair in NTE?

The entire gacha system in Neverness to Everness is called Scarborough Fair. Instead of clicking a pull button and watching an animation, you roll a dice and move a game piece — called a Chuppa — across a board. Each tile on the board has a different reward attached to it. Whatever tile your Chuppa lands on is what you get.

Your dice roll determines how many tiles you move forward — anywhere between one and six spaces per roll. You do not control the number. Every roll costs pull currency, and each roll counts as one pull toward pity.

There are two main banner types inside Scarborough Fair:

  • Limited Board — Features a time-limited S-Class character. Uses Solid Dice as currency. Runs for 14 days per phase.
  • Standard Board — Features the permanent pool of six S-Class characters. Uses Fabricated Dice as currency. Always available.

NTE Board Tile Types Explained

Not every tile on the board does the same thing. Here is what each tile type means:

  • Apprentice Chest (purple): The most common tile. Has a very low chance (0.2%) to award the featured S-Class character. Most of the time it gives a B-Class Arc (weapon).
  • Hero Chest (gold): Rarer tile with a 3% chance at the S-Class character. Also awards 2 bonus Warp Pieces regardless of outcome.
  • Journey Together: Shows a specific character portrait. Landing here guarantees that character with no further RNG. These tiles appear more frequently once soft pity kicks in.
  • Arc Light Mystery Box: Gives one random A-Class Arc from the current banner pool.
  • Warp Pieces / Lost Pieces: Direct currency rewards usable in the Scarborough Fair shop for pulls and other items.
  • Roll Again: Gives one free dice roll. In the Secret Fair area, this becomes five free dice.
  • Slumberland: Triggers a mini-event where a character called Nacupeda appears 9 tiles ahead. Catch them within 3 dice rolls to earn 30 Warp Pieces.

What Is the Secret Fair in NTE?

The Secret Fair is a bonus area on the board that has fewer total tiles but better-quality rewards. You can access it by landing on a tile next to a panel with a yellow arrow, which triggers a Rainbow Bridge leading into the Secret Fair.

Inside the Secret Fair you will find Hero Chests, S-Class Journey Together tiles, vehicle skin tiles, glider skin tiles, and Roll Again tiles worth five free dice. Think of it as the jackpot bonus round of the gacha board.

NTE Pity System Explained — Soft Pity and Hard Pity

Hard Pity — 90 Pulls

Hard pity in NTE is set at 90 pulls. If you reach 89 pulls without getting an S-Class character, your 90th pull is guaranteed to deliver one. On a Limited Board, that guaranteed S-Class will always be the currently featured character — not a random one from a pool.

Soft Pity — Board Modification at 70 Pulls

At 70 pulls without an S-Class character, the board triggers a special event called Board Modification. This is NTE’s version of soft pity, and it works very differently from other games.

Instead of gradually increasing your pull rate over time, Board Modification hits all at once. The board immediately transforms, nearly tripling the number of Journey Together (S-Class guarantee) tiles. The S-Class drop rate jumps from 0.99% to 19.59% — almost one-in-five per roll. Most players end up getting the character somewhere between pull 70 and 90 because of this.

Board Modification is tracked separately for the Limited Board and the Standard Board. It only lasts until you pull one S-Class character, then the board resets to its normal state.

A-Class Pity — Every 10 Pulls

There is also a guaranteed A-Class character or A-Class Arc every 10 pulls. If you go 9 pulls without getting an A-Class item, the 10th pull guarantees one. This resets with each A-Class reward.

No 50/50 in NTE — This Is a Big Deal

One of the biggest differences between NTE and games like Genshin Impact or Honkai: Star Rail is that NTE has no 50/50 system. In most gacha games, hitting pity only gives you a 50% chance at the featured character — if you lose the coin flip, you get a random standard character instead, and then have to pull again.

In NTE, any S-Class character pulled from a Limited Board is guaranteed to be the featured character, full stop. You never lose your pity to a random unit. This makes planning your pulls significantly easier and is much more fair for free-to-play players.

The Standard Board works similarly — every S-Class pulled from it will be one of the six permanent standard characters, with equal probability for each.

Does Pity Carry Over Between Banners in NTE?

Yes — character pity carries over. This is one of the most important features of NTE’s system. If you make 65 pulls on a Limited Board without getting an S-Class character, your next Limited Board will start at 65/90 pity. You never lose pull progress when a banner ends.

However, there is one exception: cosmetic milestone pity does not carry over between different banners. If you hit 119 pulls on a banner but did not unlock the 120-pull vehicle skin, that counter resets when a new banner starts. The one relief is that if that same banner reruns in the future, your cosmetic counter will be remembered. So if you need just 1 more pull for the 120-pull skin on a rerun, you only need that 1 pull — not 120 again.

Here is a quick summary of what carries over:

  • S-Class character pity: Carries over to every subsequent Limited Board banner. ✅
  • A-Class pity (10-pull guarantee): Carries over between banners. ✅
  • Cosmetic milestone pity (skins): Does NOT carry over to different banners. ❌ (Preserved for reruns of the same banner. ✅)

Limited Banner Cosmetic Milestones

Each Limited Board features three exclusive cosmetics tied to pull milestones:

  • 50 pulls: Glider skin
  • 120 pulls: Vehicle skin
  • 200 pulls: Character outfit

All three can also drop early from specific board tiles. The character outfit has a 0.33% base drop rate, rising to 0.68% once pity becomes active. These cosmetics are entirely optional and have no effect on gameplay — free-to-play players should not chase them unless they have a lot of extra currency.

Standard Board — Free S-Class Selector After 50 Pulls

The Standard Board has a special bonus for new players. Your first five 10-pull multis on the Standard Board are discounted — each multi costs 8 Fabricated Dice instead of 10. This means you effectively hit 50 pulls after spending only 40 Fabricated Dice.

Once you cross 50 pulls on the Standard Board, you unlock a one-time free S-Class selector. This lets you choose any one of the six permanent S-Class characters completely for free — no RNG involved. The six options are Sakiri, Daffodil, Jiuyuan, Hathor, Fadia, and Baicang.

The selector does not expire, so you do not have to rush. Wait until you naturally pull your first Standard S-Class character from regular rolls before using your selector. That way you avoid duplicates and maximize your roster width. Our guide on which free S-Class standard character to pick in NTE breaks down every option in full detail to help you decide.

NTE Gacha Currencies Explained

There are four main currencies tied to the gacha system in NTE:

  • Annulith: The primary premium currency. Earned through gameplay, events, and login rewards. Converts to Solid Dice at a rate of 160 Annulith per die for Limited Banner pulls. Save this for Limited Banners — do not spend it on the Standard Board.
  • Solid Dice: Used exclusively on the Limited Board (featured character banner). Converted from Annulith or earned directly through gameplay.
  • Fabricated Dice: Used exclusively on the Standard Board. Earned through regular game progression, the Fair Exchange shop, and events. The Standard Board first-time discount applies only to Fabricated Dice pulls.
  • Tri-Keys: Used only on the Arc Research Program (weapon banner). Earned through events, shop exchanges, and level-up rewards. You cannot do single pulls on the weapon banner — every pull costs one Tri-Key and equals 10 weapon pulls at once.

To maximize Annulith income, check our guide on how to get Annulith fast in NTE. Also make sure you grab any available NTE redeem codes for free pulls and currency.

Warp Pieces and Lost Pieces — What Are They?

As you pull on banners, you will also earn two types of special currency from the board tiles:

  • Warp Pieces: Earned from Hero Chest tiles and from obtaining S-Class Arcs (40 pieces per S-Class Arc). Used in the Scarborough Fair shop.
  • Lost Pieces: Earned from B-Class Arcs (20 pieces each) and other board tiles. Also usable in the shop.

Both can be exchanged in the Piece Shop for Solid Dice, characters, Arcs, and other items. The general recommendation is to prioritize converting them into Solid Dice for Limited Banner pulls, unless you specifically need upgrade materials.

Arc Research Program — Weapon Banner Explained

Arcs are the weapons in NTE, and they have their own separate banner called the Arc Research Program. This banner is found in the Arc Selection section inside the Arc Shop at the Mall. Here is how it works:

  • Currency: Tri-Keys
  • You can only do 10-pulls — no single pulls allowed.
  • Base S-Class Arc drop rate: 25% chance for the featured Arc on each S-Class pull.
  • Soft pity: At 60 pulls (6 multis), you are guaranteed an S-Class Arc of some kind.
  • Hard pity: At 80 pulls (8 multis), you are guaranteed the featured S-Class Arc specifically.
  • Weapon banner pity carries over between Arc Research Program rotations — no progress is ever lost.

Every S-Class Arc obtained gives you 40 Warp Pieces. A-Class Arcs give 4 Warp Pieces. B-Class Arcs give 20 Lost Pieces.

One important tip for F2P players: very strong Arcs can be obtained directly from world bosses in NTE. This means you can skip the weapon banner for secondary characters and save your Tri-Keys exclusively for the signature weapon of your main DPS. Check our Arc weapon tier list to see which weapons are worth pulling for.

How to Check Your Pity Counter in NTE

You can check your current pity count at any time inside the Scarborough Fair menu. The pity counter is displayed under the name of the board you are viewing. It shows two numbers — your current pull count toward the A-Class guarantee (10-pull pity) and your count toward the S-Class guarantee (90-pull pity). You can also see it in the top-left corner of the board screen while actively rolling.

F2P Tips for NTE’s Gacha System

  • Never spend Annulith on the Standard Board. Earn Fabricated Dice through gameplay and save Annulith for Limited Banners. You will get enough Fabricated Dice naturally to hit the free selector.
  • Wait before using your selector. Pull your first natural S-Class from the Standard Board before locking in your free selector pick to avoid duplicates.
  • Do not chase cosmetics. The 200-pull character outfit milestone is extremely expensive. Skip it unless you have a massive surplus of currency.
  • Pity carries over, so do not force yourself to pity every banner. If a character is not your priority, stop pulling. Your progress rolls into the next banner automatically.
  • Use Character Trials before pulling. NTE lets you test any character before committing currency. Use this feature. Our Character Trials guide explains how it works.
  • Farm world bosses for Arcs before spending Tri-Keys on the weapon banner for non-primary characters.
  • Follow a daily and weekly routine to steadily build your currency reserves. Our NTE daily and weekly routine guide keeps you on track.

NTE Gacha System vs Other Gacha Games — Key Differences

  • No 50/50: Every Limited Banner S-Class pull is the featured character guaranteed. Most gacha games give you a coin flip at pity.
  • Board game format: You roll dice and land on tiles instead of watching a pull animation. This makes the process more interactive.
  • Instant soft pity: At 70 pulls, the S-Class rate jumps directly to ~20% instead of climbing gradually.
  • Full pity carryover: Character pity never resets between banners. In most gacha games, pity resets when a banner ends.
  • Free S-Class selector: New players get a guaranteed free S-Class character of their choice from the standard pool after their first 50 pulls.

To see how all the standard S-Class options compare and pick the right one for your roster, read our free S-Class character selector guide. You can also check the full NTE character tier list to plan which Limited Banner characters are worth spending your Annulith on.

How to Reroll in NTE

If you want to start your account with a specific S-Class character, rerolling is an option in NTE. The process is more straightforward than most gacha games because of the free selector system. Our NTE reroll guide walks you through the full process step by step, including which characters are worth targeting during a reroll.

Final Thoughts

NTE’s gacha system is genuinely one of the most player-friendly in the genre right now. The removal of the 50/50, full pity carryover, an instant soft pity jump, and the free Standard Board selector all work together to make the system feel fair and predictable rather than punishing.

The one area to watch is cosmetics. The 200-pull milestone for character outfits is expensive, and cosmetic pity does not carry over between different banners. If skins are not important to you, NTE is an excellent game to play completely free-to-play.

Understand the system, spend smart, and your pulls will go a long way.
