TL;DR
- Cartridges and Modules are the gear system in NTE — equipped through a Tetris-style Console unique to each character.
- Get Cartridges by farming the Rabbit Hole Anomaly Zone in Cape Square, New Herland District. Each run costs 40 Character Pixels.
- Get Modules using the Rewind feature inside the Console screen. It costs Carrota, which also drops from the Rabbit Hole.
- Equipping 2 matching Modules activates the Epic (2-piece) set effect. Equipping 4 matching Modules activates the Legend (4-piece) effect.
- You need Hunter Level 10 to access the first Rabbit Hole tier, Level 20 for Normal Rewind, and Level 30 for Hard Rewind.
- Do not seriously farm Cartridges before Hunter Level 30 — higher rarity pieces start dropping from that point.

What Is the Console System in NTE?
In Neverness to Everness, characters do not use traditional armor or equipment slots. Instead, every Esper carries a handheld Console — a personal gear board with a unique rectangular grid shape. You fill that grid with two types of gear pieces: Cartridges and Modules.
Think of it like Tetris. You are placing shaped pieces onto a grid to cover cells. The Cartridge sits at the center and defines your set bonuses. The Modules fill the rest of the grid around it. How you arrange these pieces determines which set bonuses activate and how much stat power your character gets.
This is one of the most important progression systems in NTE. Getting the right Cartridges and Modules on your characters is what separates a weak team from one that clears content smoothly. The good news is the system is more transparent than most gacha games — all sub-stats are visible upfront before you invest any upgrade materials.
What Are Cartridges in NTE?
Cartridges are the main gear piece in the Console system. They work similarly to Relics in Honkai: Star Rail or Artifacts in Genshin Impact — they provide a main stat, four sub-stats, and define a set bonus for your build.
Key things to know about Cartridges:
- Each Cartridge has one Main Stat and four Sub Stats. All four sub-stats are visible the moment you get the piece — no mystery rolls hidden behind upgrades.
- Main Stat and Sub Stats can overlap. It is possible to have the same stat appear in both slots, which can either double up a stat you want or waste a slot.
- Leveling a Cartridge only raises the Main Stat. Sub-stats are locked at drop and unlock progressively at +5, +10, +15, and +20. Higher rarity Cartridges (B, A, S) roll higher stat values overall.
- Cartridges cap at +20. Each sub-stat unlocks one at a time every five levels.
- Check sub-stats before upgrading past +5. If the sub-stats revealed at +5 look poor, do not invest more materials. Save them for a better piece.
- Cartridges come in elemental and general sets — there are 12 total at launch. Each set is designed to suit specific roles and damage types.
What Are Modules in NTE?
Modules are the smaller shaped pieces that fill the rest of the Console grid around the Cartridge. Unlike the Cartridge, Modules are not tied to any specific set — any Module of the right shape can activate a Cartridge’s set bonus as long as it fits the required pattern on the grid.
Key things to know about Modules:
- Each Module has two fixed Main Stats — always Flat ATK and Flat HP. These do not vary between pieces.
- Modules have four randomly rolled Sub Stats. Just like Cartridges, all four are visible immediately from the moment you receive the Module.
- Sub-stats unlock at +5, +10, +15, and +20, the same as Cartridges. Modules also cap at +20.
- Modules come in three types based on how many blocks (cells) they take up on the grid: Type II (2 blocks), Type III (3 blocks), and Type IV (4 blocks). Higher Types carry higher stat values but are harder to fit in the grid.
- Each character has a preferred Module Type. Check the character’s equipment page to see if they prefer Type II or Type III Modules. Filling your remaining grid cells with the preferred type grants additional bonus stats on top of the set effect — for example, Nanally gets bonus CRIT Rate for each Type II Module equipped.
- Modules can be rotated to fit different orientations on the grid. The shape and angle must both match to activate a set bonus.
- Only the first four Modules count for set bonuses. Inserting a fifth Module does not increase your stats further, even if the grid allows it physically.
How the Console Grid Works
Each character’s Console is a unique rectangular grid. You place the Cartridge at the center, then fit Modules into the remaining cells like a puzzle. Here is the correct order to fill the Console for maximum effect:
- Slot the Cartridge first. This declares which set you are building toward. The Console screen will show you the exact Module pattern required to activate the 2-piece and 4-piece bonuses.
- Fill the cells required by the Cartridge pattern. Place four Modules that match the shape the Cartridge requires to activate the full Legend (4-piece) set effect. The 2-piece Epic effect activates with just two matching Modules — but always aim for the full four.
- Fill remaining cells with your character’s preferred Module Type. After the Cartridge pattern is satisfied, use whatever cells are left to equip your character’s preferred shape (Type II or Type III). This activates the character-specific preference bonus.
- Use Type II Modules to fill awkward gaps. The 2-block shape is the most flexible and fits small spaces that larger Modules cannot cover. Well-rolled Type II pieces stay valuable even in endgame builds.
Every empty cell on the grid produces no stats. Cover the entire grid to maximize your character’s power. You can rearrange pieces at any time at no cost, so feel free to experiment.
How to Get Cartridges in NTE
Cartridges are farmed from a specific repeatable challenge called the Rabbit Hole Anomaly Zone.

The Rabbit Hole Anomaly Zone
The Rabbit Hole is located in Cape Square, on the south side of the New Herland District. It is on top of a high-rise building, which makes it one of the trickier Anomaly Zones to reach for the first time. Once you find the rooftop entrance and interact with the bunny NPC inside, you are in.

Requirements to access:
- Hunter Level 10 to access the first difficulty tier.
How to run the Rabbit Hole:
- Fast travel to the New Herland District and locate the Rabbit Hole on your map.
- Reach the rooftop entrance and interact with the bunny NPC inside.
- Select the difficulty and stage you want to run. Each stage drops specific Cartridge sets, so pick the one that matches the character you are building.
- Complete the challenge. Each run costs 40 Character Pixels (your energy/stamina).
- Claim your rewards after finishing. You can also use the Double Rewards option to claim twice in one go and save time.
Each run also drops Carrota (Bronze, Silver, or Gold depending on difficulty) and Manhole upgrade materials alongside Cartridges — so you are farming multiple resources at once.
You can also quickly access the Rabbit Hole through the Exploration Guide menu without manually traveling there each time.
Other Ways to Get Cartridges
The Rabbit Hole is the primary source, but Cartridges can also drop from:
- Gifts from 21 treasure chests scattered across the open world
- Open-world Anomaly bosses and enemies
- Anomaly Commissions and mission rewards
- The Rewind system using Bronze Carrota (though this is mainly for Modules — more on that below)
How to Get Modules in NTE
Modules are obtained through a separate system called Rewind, which you access directly from the Console screen.
The Rewind System
The Rewind feature is essentially a controlled pull system for Modules. It does not use gacha currency — it uses Carrota, which drops from the Rabbit Hole alongside your Cartridges.
How to access Rewind:
- Open your Character page.
- Navigate to the Console section.
- Press the Rewind button in the bottom-left corner of the Console screen.
Rewind difficulty tiers and unlock requirements:
- Easy — Available from the start. Drops blue (B-rank) Modules. Uses Bronze Carrota.
- Normal — Unlocks at Hunter Level 20. Drops purple/pink (A-rank) Modules. Uses Silver Carrota.
- Hard — Unlocks at Hunter Level 30. Drops gold (S-rank) Modules. Uses Gold Carrota.
Pull costs:
- A single Rewind pull costs 80 Carrota.
- A 10-pull costs 800 Carrota.
Module Selection Feature
Once you unlock Normal and Hard difficulty Rewind, you can use the Module Selection feature to increase your chances of getting specific pieces. Instead of pulling completely at random, you can choose up to 8 Modules to target by shape and type before pulling. The game then guarantees at least one of your selected shapes appears in a 10-pull.
This makes Rewind significantly more efficient at higher levels because you can target the specific Module shapes your character’s Console needs instead of hoping for luck. Note that adding duplicates to your selection or choosing rarer configurations increases the Carrota cost — be selective about what you include in your selection to keep costs reasonable.
How to Upgrade Cartridges and Modules
Both Cartridges and Modules can be leveled up to +20. The upgrade process is the same for both:
- Go to Character → Console → Equip → Enhance.
- Select the Cartridge or Module you want to upgrade.
- Use Manhole upgrade materials to level it up. These come in three types: Manhole Thug, Manhole Crook, and Manhole Boss.
- Upgrading also requires Beetle Coins — collect them regularly through daily activities and Anomaly Commissions.
Manhole materials drop from the Rabbit Hole stages alongside Cartridges and Carrota. This is another reason why the Rabbit Hole is your main daily farming destination — it provides everything you need for both acquiring and upgrading your gear in one place.
Important tip: Before upgrading a Cartridge past +5, check which sub-stats unlocked. If the revealed stats do not fit your character’s build, do not invest more materials. Move on and farm for a better piece. The transparency of NTE’s system — showing all stats upfront — is designed specifically to help you avoid wasting resources on bad gear.
Carrota Types and How to Farm Them
Carrota is the currency for the Rewind Module system. There are three types that correspond to the three Rewind tiers:
- Bronze Carrota — Drops from Easy and lower Rabbit Hole stages. Used for Easy Rewind (blue Modules). Also obtained from quest rewards and leveling up.
- Silver Carrota — Drops from mid-tier Rabbit Hole stages. Used for Normal Rewind (purple Modules).
- Gold Carrota — Drops from Hard Rabbit Hole stages. Used for Hard Rewind (gold/S-rank Modules).
The more difficult the Rabbit Hole stage you run, the better the Carrota grade you earn. Always run the highest tier you can clear to farm Gold Carrota as soon as you hit Hunter Level 30.
Tips for Getting the Most Out of Cartridges and Modules
- Do not farm Cartridges seriously before Hunter Level 30. Higher rarity pieces start dropping at that threshold. Gear farmed before that point will quickly be replaced, making the effort wasteful.
- Always complete the 4-piece set first. An incomplete set with perfect sub-stats still leaves the 4-piece Legend bonus inactive. The set completion always comes before chasing ideal sub-stat rolls.
- Check each character’s preferred Module Type. Every character lists their preferred Module shape on their equipment page. Always fill remaining Console cells with that type after satisfying the Cartridge set pattern.
- Use Module Selection on Normal and Hard Rewind. Random pulls are wasteful once you know exactly what shape your character needs. Spend slightly more Carrota to guarantee the right shapes.
- Run Rabbit Hole every day. Character Pixels regenerate over time, and the Rabbit Hole is your primary source of Cartridges, Carrota, and Manhole upgrade materials all at once. Spend your Pixels daily to keep progression moving.
- Use Type II Modules to fill awkward grid gaps. The 2-block shape is the most versatile for plugging remaining cells after larger pieces are placed. Good Type II Modules with strong sub-stats stay useful throughout the entire game.
- Farm Carrota with Anomaly Commissions too. Several Anomaly Commissions drop Bronze and Silver Carrota as one-time rewards. Completing these early gives you a head start on your Rewind pulls. Check our guide on the Heaven’s Forsaken Anomaly Commission for one example of a commission that rewards Carrota.
- Do not upgrade sub-optimal Cartridges past +5. Check the stats that unlock at +5. If they are not what you need for your build, stop and farm for a better piece instead.
How to Access the Rabbit Hole for the First Time
Because the Rabbit Hole is on top of a high-rise building in Cape Square, New Herland District, some players have trouble finding the entrance. Here is what to do:
- Fast travel to the New Herland District Wertheimer Tower or a nearby ReroRero Phone Booth.
- Open your map and look for the Rabbit Hole Anomaly Zone icon in Cape Square on the south side of the district.
- Navigate to the building and climb to the rooftop. The entrance to the zone is on top.
- Interact with the bunny NPC at the entrance to start your first run.
- Choose your stage and difficulty. Each stage drops different Cartridge sets — check which set your character needs before selecting.
Once you have visited the Rabbit Hole at least once, you can access it quickly from the Exploration Guide window any time without physically traveling there.
Build Priority Order for New Players
If you are just getting started with the Console system, here is a simple priority order to follow:
- Equip the best Arc you have on your main character first. Check our guide on how to get the free S-Class Day Off Arc for Esper Zero.
- Farm the Rabbit Hole regularly and collect Cartridges that match your main character’s recommended set.
- Run Easy Rewind with your Bronze Carrota to start collecting Modules early.
- Once you hit Hunter Level 20, switch to Normal Rewind for better Modules and use Module Selection to target the shapes you need.
- Once you hit Hunter Level 30, switch to Hard Rewind and prioritize running the hardest Rabbit Hole stages daily for Gold Carrota.
- Focus on one character at a time rather than spreading resources across everyone. A fully-geared main carry is worth more than several half-geared characters.
