What Is the Hyacinth Macaw?

The Hyacinth Macaw is a legendary bird pet in Crimson Desert based on the real-life hyacinth macaw, the largest parrot species in the world. In-game, it has deep indigo-blue feathers and yellow markings around its eyes. It is described as possessing remarkable intelligence and the ability to form a deep bond with a worthy master.

Unlike the Mountain God Boar — which is a boss encounter — the Hyacinth Macaw is a tameable companion you can register and keep forever. It behaves like other bird pets in the game, following you around as you explore. Requirements Before You Start

There are two things you must do before the Hyacinth Macaw will appear.

Reach the Crimson Desert region. The bird is located in the southeast part of this area. You need to have progressed far enough in the story to access this zone.
Liberate the Giant’s Yard Outpost Camp. The camp is held by the Wolf Trackers faction. The Hyacinth Macaw will not spawn while enemies control the area. Clear the camp first, and doing so also completes the Giant’s Yard questline for the Crimson Desert Politics faction quest.

What You Need to Tame the Hyacinth Macaw

Sotdae of Bond

The Sotdae of Bond is the key item for taming any bird in Crimson Desert. It acts as a bird feeder — you load it with food, place it in the world, and wait for the bird to land on it. If you do not already have one, check our dedicated guide on how to get the Sotdae of Bond.

Desert Melons (Favorite Food)

The Hyacinth Macaw’s favorite food is Desert Melon. Each melon gives +15 Trust, which means you need the bird to eat at least 7 melons to reach 100 Trust and complete the taming. However, do not bring just 7. Other birds in the area — particularly the smaller Sun Conures that travel with the Hyacinth Macaw — will land on your feeder and steal food. Bring at least 10 to 12 Desert Melons to be safe.

Where to buy Desert Melons:

Grocer’s Shop in Tomasso — Located in the main city south of Tashkalp. You can buy up to 5 at a time for 72 Copper each. The Grocer is in the southeast corner of town, near the stable.
Grocer in Varnia — Another solid source if you have already unlocked that area.
Redsand Farm dispatch mission — Once you discover Redsand Farm on the map, a Desert Melon Harvesting dispatch mission becomes available. If you cannot find Desert Melons, the bird will also accept other fruits, insects, and grains — but trust gain will be slower. Stick to Desert Melons for the fastest result.

Pro tip: Leveling your Settler skill to tier 4 cuts the number of visits needed to fill the trust bar in half. Worth keeping in mind if you are grinding the skill anyway.

Legendary Hyacinth Macaw Location in Crimson Desert — Exact Spot

Head to the Giant’s Yard Outpost Camp in the Redtree Forest. This is in the southeast of the Crimson Desert region, close to the Red River along the Tashkalp boundary, north of Delesyia.

Once the camp is liberated, the Hyacinth Macaw can be spotted flying around the area with a flock of smaller Sun Conures. It is easy to tell apart — it is the large, deep blue bird among a group of smaller yellow-green ones.

For where to place the Sotdae: go northeast from the center of the Giant’s Yard Outpost Camp. Place the Sotdae of Bond on the cliff edge to the right of the large wooden tower, above the ravine, overlooking the Red Tree Forest. Several spots along this cliff will work. The game will show a blue circle on the ground when you have found a valid placement zone. This cliff position reliably intersects with the Hyacinth Macaw’s flight path.

How to Tame the Hyacinth Macaw — Step by Step

Liberate the Giant’s Yard Outpost Camp from the Wolf Trackers.
Load your Sotdae of Bond with Desert Melons before heading out.
Go northeast of the camp and place the Sotdae on the cliff above the ravine, to the right of the large wooden tower. Look for the blue placement indicator on the ground.
Step back a short distance and wait. Do not stand too close — the bird will not land if you hover over the feeder.
Watch for the flock. The Hyacinth Macaw flies with a group of Sun Conures. When you see the large blue bird approaching, keep still.
If a Sun Conure steals from the feeder, use Force Palm on the feeder to scare it off before it eats your melons.
Let the Hyacinth Macaw feed without interruption. The Trust meter will rise as it eats. Do not approach or attack.
Once Trust reaches 100, walk up slowly and select Take In to register the bird as your permanent pet.

Hyacinth Macaw Spawn Tips

This bird is not a guaranteed or instant spawn. The flight path is unpredictable, and it may take several minutes — or multiple visits — before it lands on your feeder. Here is what helps:

Sunny weather is recommended. Some players report better results on clear days, though the bird has also landed during rain.
Reset the area by resting for 12 in-game hours or reloading a save if the bird is not showing up after a long wait.
Move the Sotdae if other birds keep eating from it. Try slightly different positions along the same cliff edge.
Do not fight or run near the feeder while waiting. Loud combat activity may discourage the bird from landing.
NPC soldiers near the camp can sometimes disturb the area. Make sure the outpost is fully clear before attempting the tame.

Other Food Options (If You Run Out of Desert Melons)

If Desert Melons run out, the Hyacinth Macaw will accept insects, grains, and other fruits. However, these give less Trust per feeding and slow down the process. Try to stock up on enough melons before you start. Merchants restock every 12 in-game hours, so if you run short, rest and return to buy more.
