What Is the Rolling Barrels Challenge in Genshin Impact?
The rolling barrels challenge — officially called Jack Frosts in the Wine Cellar — is a hidden mini-game on the Main Floor of the House of Hesperides in Fellfrost Peak, Snezhnaya. It is one of the mansion’s fifteen-plus hidden challenges and involves helping a group of Jack Frost fae complete a barrel-sorting task in the mansion’s underground wine cellar. A Determined-Looking Jack Frost has been tasked with rolling barrels of wine northward to the racking area where another Jack Frost is waiting to sort them — but the work is proving too hard to do alone.
Your job is to stand next to the Determined-Looking Jack Frost and attack the rolling barrels to send them flying north toward the racking area. Hit all the regular barrels within the time limit, avoid the explosive ones, and the Jack Frosts will celebrate a job well done. The reward is a Precious Chest — one of the best single-chest rewards on the entire Main Floor — which may also contain a Remnant Incense Guide – Fellfrost Peak, a key item tied to a separate secret chamber in the region.

How to Access the House of Hesperides
Before you can reach the Wine Cellar, you need access to the mansion itself. Here is what is required:
- Complete Archon Quest Prologue: Act III – Song of the Dragon and Freedom to unlock Snezhnaya and receive the Eye of Graeae gadget.
- Progress through Archon Quest Chapter VII: Act I – Everwinter Without Mercy and complete Gunfire in the Silent Lands to unlock Snezhnayan world quests.
- Start and progress through the Hesperides of Love and Hate world quest chain until you receive the Invitation to the “Ritual” and gain ongoing access to the mansion. The invitation can be found at Svetloledovka Station — inside the office west of the station, look for an envelope on one of the waiting room seats — or by speaking to Mesherskaya near the bulletin board southwest of the Svetloledovka Teleport Waypoint.
- Teleport to the Mountain Mansion Front Hall (House of Hesperides Main Floor) waypoint once it is unlocked.
Where to Find the Wine Cellar
The Wine Cellar is located on the House of Hesperides Main Floor, behind a curtain near the southern stairs. Here is how to reach it:
- From the Mountain Mansion Front Hall teleport waypoint, move toward the southern end of the Main Floor where the staircase is located.
- Look for curtains on the right side of the southern stairs. They are easy to walk past without noticing since the entrance is partly concealed.
- Go behind the right curtain — this opens into the Wine Cellar area below. If you have already done the Hide-and-Seek Jack Frosts quest, you may have spotted the curtain when the third hiding Jack Frost disguised itself as a barrel near these very stairs. The Wine Cellar entrance is right beside that Jack Frost’s hiding spot.
Once inside the Wine Cellar, you will see rows of barrels, wine racks, and a Determined-Looking Jack Frost standing in the corner. This is the NPC that starts the challenge.
How to Start the Rolling Barrels Challenge
Walk up to the Determined-Looking Jack Frost and interact with it. It will explain the situation — the barrels of wine need to be rolled north to the racking area where another Jack Frost is waiting to sort and stack them. The task is harder than expected and the Jack Frost cannot manage it without help.
Select “What are you doing?” in the dialogue to learn what is happening, then interact again and select Start to begin the barrel challenge. A timer starts and the rolling barrels begin coming toward you from various directions.
How to Hit the Rolling Barrels to the Racking Area
The mechanics are straightforward once you understand the positioning:
Step 1 — Stand Next to the Determined-Looking Jack Frost
Position yourself beside the Determined-Looking Jack Frost before hitting anything. The Jack Frost is standing roughly in the center-south of the Wine Cellar, and standing next to it is the correct attack position. The racking area where the receiving Jack Frost waits is to the north — so every barrel you hit should travel in that direction.
Step 2 — Attack the Barrels as They Roll
When the barrels start rolling across the cellar floor, attack them with any normal attack or skill. When hit correctly from the position next to the Determined-Looking Jack Frost, the barrels fly northward toward the racking area where the waiting Jack Frost catches and sorts them. You do not need to aim carefully — the positioning next to the Determined-Looking Jack Frost naturally angles your hits in the correct direction.
Any character and any attack type works. You do not need a specific element or a strong hit — even a basic Normal Attack from a low-level character will send barrels flying in the right direction. The speed and power of your hit does not matter for accuracy, only for timing.
Step 3 — Hit 8 Regular Barrels, Avoid the 6 Explosive Ones
The challenge involves two types of barrels rolling across the cellar floor:
- Regular barrels (8 total): These are the normal wine barrels you need to hit northward. Strike each one as it rolls past to send it to the racking area. Each successful hit is tracked by the challenge counter.
- Explosive barrels (6 total): These barrels are dangerous. Hitting them causes an explosion that can damage you and interrupt your rhythm. Do not attack explosive barrels — dodge around them or let them pass. You can visually distinguish explosive barrels from regular ones by their appearance — they glow, spark, or have a distinct visual indicator warning you of the danger.
Complete the task of hitting all 8 regular barrels northward within the time limit to finish the challenge. The receiving Jack Frost at the racking area catches each barrel as it arrives, stacking them neatly in the rack.
Step 4 — Collect Your Precious Chest
Once all 8 regular barrels are successfully sent to the racking area, the Jack Frosts celebrate and the challenge ends. A Precious Chest spawns in the Wine Cellar as your reward. Open it to collect Primogems, Intricately Patterned Buttons, Adventure EXP, Mora, and other Snezhnayan materials.
Check the chest carefully — it has a chance to contain a Remnant Incense Guide – Fellfrost Peak, one of three Incense Guides needed to unseal a special secret chamber elsewhere in Fellfrost Peak. That secret chamber contains Dust of Enlightenment and 5-Star Artifacts, making this Precious Chest one of the most chain-reward-rich drops in the entire mansion.

What Is the Remnant Incense Guide – Fellfrost Peak?
The Remnant Incense Guide – Fellfrost Peak is a special collectible item tied to a secret challenge in the Fellfrost Peak region of Snezhnaya. There are three of these guides total, and collecting all three unseals a hidden secret chamber containing Dust of Enlightenment and 5-Star Artifacts — some of the most powerful progression materials in the game.
The other two Remnant Incense Guides for Fellfrost Peak are found elsewhere in the region and the mansion. The Precious Chest from the Mountain Paintings Puzzle (Bedroom Quest) on the second floor also has a chance to drop one. Finding all three and unsealing the secret chamber is a significant exploration milestone for players clearing Fellfrost Peak’s hidden content.
Tips for the Rolling Barrels Challenge
- Stand beside the Determined-Looking Jack Frost before attacking anything. This is the single most important tip. The correct position for sending barrels northward is next to the Determined-Looking Jack Frost. If you are standing elsewhere in the cellar and swinging, barrels may fly in the wrong direction and miss the racking area.
- Learn to identify explosive barrels before you swing. Explosive barrels have a visual cue — they glow, spark, or look noticeably different from regular barrels. Before the challenge starts, scan the cellar briefly so you can quickly tell the two barrel types apart when things speed up.
- Use fast Normal Attacks. Charged Attacks or Elemental Skills with long animations can cause you to miss a regular barrel while the windup happens. Stick to fast Normal Attacks so you can hit each barrel promptly as it rolls past without losing rhythm between strikes.
- Dodge explosive barrels sideways, not backward. If an explosive barrel rolls directly toward you, a quick sidestep is faster than retreating and keeps you in the correct hitting position. Walking backward puts you out of position and makes it harder to hit the next regular barrel.
- Do not panic if you miss one early. The challenge tracks how many regular barrels you hit — if the first one slips past, focus on the remaining ones. Missing one or two may still allow you to complete the challenge if enough barrels are successfully sent north. Stay calm and keep your rhythm for the rest of the run.
- Clear the Hide-and-Seek quest and Wine Cellar in the same visit. The curtain entrance to the Wine Cellar is right next to the southern stairs where Jack Frost #3 hides in the Hide-and-Seek Jack Frosts Quest. Do both challenges back to back and you clear all the southern stairs area content in one stop.
- Also clear the Kitchen challenge nearby. The Jack Frosts in the Kitchen challenge with Vershina is in the northwest corner of the same Main Floor. After the Wine Cellar, walk northwest to find Vershina and complete her observation questions for three additional chests. All Main Floor challenges can be done in a single visit.
