What Is the Miles Apart Quest in NTE?
Miles Apart is one of the most emotionally layered side quests in Neverness to Everness (NTE). On the map it appears as a quest called Lights On, but once you begin it, the name in your quest log changes to Miles Apart.
This quest takes you inside an Anomaly Exhibit, where you meet an entity called Tungsten and begin experiencing a series of memories belonging to a woman named Patty. You switch between a dark past and a sunny present, collecting items and solving a multi-room puzzle to help Patty reconnect with her childhood home and her late mother.
It is one of the more story-driven side missions in NTE and is well worth doing. It is different from action-focused commissions like the Video Cemetery Anomaly Commission or Flaming Bike Ride Assault Anomaly Commission, so go in expecting puzzles and narrative over pure combat.

Miles Apart Quest Location and How to Unlock It
The Miles Apart quest starts at the Gold Apple Collection Hall, a museum located on East Talin Avenue in the New Herland District. Look for a yellow arch icon on your map. It sits right next to a ReroRero Phone Booth, near the Regalia dealership to the south of the area.
The quest is available from early in the game. You do not need to complete a specific prerequisite mission beyond finishing Prologue 1 – Unforeseen Yet Foretold.
If you have not yet unlocked the New Herland District or other parts of the map, check out our guide on how to unlock all map areas in NTE to clear the way. You can also use nearby teleport points to fast travel to the area faster.
How to Start the Miles Apart Quest
Walk into the Gold Apple Collection Hall and talk to Iris, the NPC standing near the entrance. She will point out the lightbulb art piece beside her, which is actually an Anomaly.

Interact with the Anomaly Exhibit “Lamp” to be teleported into a storage-looking area. Here you will meet Tungsten, an Oddity guide who explains the situation. He will hand you a special item called A Switch from Tungsten, which lets you flip between the dark past and the sunny present throughout the quest.
To use the switch during the quest, open your radial menu by holding L1 (controller) or T (keyboard), go to the Wheel section, and the switch sits at the top. You will be using it constantly throughout the mission.
Miles Apart Full Walkthrough – Step by Step
Step 1 – Follow the Light’s Guidance and Talk to the Girl on the Swing
After receiving the switch from Tungsten, follow the glowing path ahead of you. You will soon reach a girl sitting on a swing in a park area. Try to talk to her. She is not very talkative at first but will eventually respond before running off.
Step 2 – Try Knocking on the Door
Follow the girl to a house nearby and knock on the front door three times. Your character will not push it open. This is your cue to use the switch. Activate it to shift to the present (sunny) version of the same location. From here, the guide will refer to the sunny side as the present and the dark side as the past.
Step 3 – Talk to the Construction Worker and Then Patty
In the present, approach the construction workers standing in front of the house. They will complain about the house owner constantly changing her renovation plans. Then talk to Patty, the architect nearby. She invites you to walk with her to a nearby park for inspiration.
Step 4 – Go to the Park and Gather Inspiration
Follow Patty to the park. Examine the following objects in order: the slide, the exercise equipment, the rocking chair, and finally the swing again. Each interaction triggers a reaction from Patty and gradually reveals her backstory about wanting to recreate her childhood home.

Step 5 – Visit the Flower Shop and Choose the Right Flower
The park tour leads you to a flower shop. Inside, Patty will ask you to pick a flower for her. Choose the yellow roses. Talk to Patty again after selecting them to continue.
Step 6 – Look Around the House
After a dialogue scene inside the house, you are free to explore. This is where the quest gets more involved. You need to travel back and forth between the past and present versions of the house to find four key items. There are decoy items scattered around too, so pay close attention to which ones you actually need.
All 4 Correct Items and Where to Find Them
These are the four items you need to collect to progress the Miles Apart quest in NTE. Follow the steps in order:

Item 1 – Patty’s Design Draft
- Switch to the past.
- Go to the second floor, back right room.
- Pick up the Paint Can from the floor.
- Switch to the present.
- Give the red paint to Patty.
- She hands you Patty’s Design Draft in return.
Item 2 – The Fox and the Swing
- Stay in the past.
- Go to the bathroom upstairs and find a key hidden among some clothes.
- Switch to the present.
- Go to the back right room upstairs and use the key to open the locked glass cabinet.
- This gives you the book “The Fox and the Swing”.
Item 3 – Sticky Note
- Switch to the past.
- Go downstairs to the kitchen.
- Grab the Sticky Note (labelled “100 Healthy Meals Kids Love”) from the fridge.
Item 4 – Mended Teddy Bear
- Stay in the past.
- Go upstairs to the bedroom near the window.
- Grab the Damaged Red Teddy Bear from the cupboard. Note: there is also one in the hallway but you must take the one from the bedroom specifically.
- Switch to the present.
- Go downstairs and find the Household Tools box next to the record player, to the right of the TV.
- Insert the Damaged Red Teddy Bear into the box to receive the Mended Teddy Bear.
How to Reach the Memory Rooms
After gathering your items, there is one more thing to do before the memory portal sequence unlocks:
- In the past, go downstairs and talk to the girl sitting on the couch. She will kick you out of the house.
- Switch to the present and head upstairs.
- The vase on the left at the top of the stairs will now glow blue. Interact with it to receive a letter.
- Turn around and walk to the end of the hallway, which becomes distorted and leads into a new area accessible only in the past.
At the end of this distorted hallway, you enter a central hub with Patty’s life scenes and several portals surrounding a middle room.
Which Items to Submit in Each Memory Room
Each portal leads to a different memory room where you need to submit the correct item to progress. Here is exactly what to use in each room:
- First room: Submit the green book (the right item on the selection).
- Teddy Bear room (bottom left portal): Submit the Mended Teddy Bear (the middle bear).
- Cake room (bottom right portal): Submit the Sticky Note (the yellow paper item on the right).
- Painting room (front right portal): Submit the left item that looks like a pink drawing.
Do not mix these up. Submitting the wrong item in a room will not progress the memory. Take a second to look at what is in your inventory and match it to the correct room description above.
Defeat Enemies From the Past
Once all four correct items are submitted, go through the blue mirror in the middle of the hub area where the girl is pointing. This triggers a combat sequence.
You need to fight through 5 rooms of enemies. After clearing each room, step through the glowing wall mirror with light shining through it to move to the next one. This continues until all 5 rooms are cleared.

Give the Hair Clip to Patty
After clearing the 5th room of enemies, talk to Patty. She will teleport you out of the combat area and give you a hair clip. Switch back to the present and find Patty standing near the TV. Give her the hair clip and talk to her.
Go to the Storage Floor and Talk to the Girl in the Storage Room
Follow Patty upstairs. After the dialogue scene, switch to the past and go to the second floor storage room. Talk to the child version of Patty there. This unlocks the final part of the quest.
Give the Letter to Patty and Finish the Quest
This is the final step. Go back outside to the front of the house in the present and give Patty her mother’s letter. She tries to overcome her fear and reads it for the first time. It is a quiet but touching moment that wraps up the story.
Afterward, head back to Tungsten in the Exhibition Hall area to talk through the events if you want. This completes the Miles Apart side quest in NTE. Your answer choices when talking to Tungsten at this point do not affect the outcome, so pick whatever feels right.
Miles Apart Quest Rewards
Completing Miles Apart gives you the following rewards:
- Hunter Level EXP x400
- Annulith x60

Miles Apart Tips and Things to Know
- The teddy bear location matters. There are two Damaged Red Teddy Bears in the house. You must take the one from the bedroom cupboard near the window, not the one in the hallway. Only the correct one can be repaired at the Household Tools box.
- Yellow roses are the right answer. In the flower shop, select yellow roses. This is the only correct choice.
- Dialogue choices with Tungsten do not matter. When Tungsten asks you questions at the end, your answer has no effect on rewards or story outcome. Pick freely.
- Blue glowing items are always important. Keep an eye out for anything glowing blue in the house, especially after talking to the girl on the couch downstairs. The glowing vase at the top of the stairs is easy to miss.
- Switch often and methodically. The key to this quest is being organized about when you switch timelines. Collect past items, take them to the present, and vice versa. If you are stuck, try switching and checking the same rooms again.
What Comes After Miles Apart
Completing Miles Apart unlocks a follow-up side quest called The Second Lamp / Heroes don’t always arrive in moments of glory. This follow-up becomes available after finishing Miles Apart, so stay in the area and look for the next marker if you want to continue Patty’s story.

Thoughts
Miles Apart is one of NTE’s most memorable side quests. It stands out because it tells a real human story through puzzle mechanics rather than just putting enemies in front of you. The timeline-switching system with Tungsten’s Switch is clever, and once you know exactly which items to collect and where to find them, the whole quest flows smoothly from start to finish.
The key is staying organized. Know which items you need, switch timelines deliberately, and keep an eye out for blue glowing interactables. If you follow the steps in this guide, you will complete Miles Apart without any frustration and walk away with solid rewards for your trouble.
