Wuthering Waves 3.6 Release Date and Duration

Version 3.6 launched on August 20, 2026, at 11:00 AM UTC+8. Players in the Americas got it the evening of August 19 due to time zone differences. The patch runs for 42 days and ends on September 29–30, 2026. Maintenance before launch lasted roughly seven hours.

The update follows the usual two-phase structure. Phase 1 started on August 20 and is expected to run until September 10, 2026. Phase 2 begins on September 10 and runs until the patch ends.

Wuthering Waves 3.6 New Characters

This patch brings two brand-new 5-star Resonators. Both are tied to the ongoing Mengzhou storyline and have unique combat mechanics.

Qingxiao – Aero Sword (Phase 1)

Qingxiao is a 5-star Aero Resonator who wields a Sword. She is the legendary “Sword Transcendent” and Xuan Paragon of Xuanfang Hold, known as a reclusive master of both qin and sword. Lore describes her as having guarded these lands for more than a century.

Her combat style is built around a Qin-Sword Dual Stance system. She alternates between a Hidden Sword Stance and a Wielded Sword Stance automatically as she attacks. Each stance builds a different resource – Qin Heart and Sword Spirit. Once both gauges are full, she enters her powered-up Ephemeral Transcendence state, where she rides her flying sword and commands aerial sword barrages. Her Resonance Liberation introduces Mindlock, which pins enemies before unleashing a celestial blade attack.

She is a main Aero DPS focused on Tune Strain mechanics, and early tier-list creators are already placing her in the top bracket. Her signature weapon is Glint of Clouds, a 5-star Sword.

Phase 1 also features a Denia rerun, with 4-star rate-ups including Yangyang, Baizhi, and Sanhua.

Jingran – Fusion Broadblade (Phase 2)

Jingran is a 5-star Fusion Resonator who wields a Broadblade. He is a Mengzhou-born Nethermancer who travels between mirage realms. He carries a special lantern containing a supernatural feline spirit that assists him in combat.

His kit revolves around stance switching between Negative Yin and Embracing Yang via Heavy Attacks. Jingran scales off both Max HP and Attack stats, making him a dual-scaling DPS. He can generate shields and deals heavy aerial damage with extended airborne attack sequences. His lantern-based domain mechanics and self-sustain make him durable in extended fights.

His signature weapon is Thousandfold Deliverance, a 5-star Broadblade that provides HP% and CRIT DMG and enhances Heavy Attack damage.

Phase 2 reruns include Mornye and Iuno (Hiyuki), alongside their signature weapons.

Two new 5-star weapons arrive in this patch:

  • Glint of Clouds – 5-star Sword, Qingxiao’s signature weapon. Enhances Aero damage and DEF ignore, tied to her Tune Shifting mechanic.
  • Thousandfold Deliverance – 5-star Broadblade, Jingran’s signature weapon. Provides HP% and CRIT DMG, boosts Heavy Attack damage, and restores HP when Jingran gains a shield.

Rerun weapons for Denia, Hiyuki, and Mornye also return on their respective Featured Weapon Convenes during this patch.

Two main story quests release with Version 3.6, both continuing Chapter IV’s Xuanfang arc:

  • Chapter IV Act III – Song of the Heart Sword: Rover returns to Mengzhou after the aftermath of the last battle to deal with mechanism malfunctions spreading across the land. This is a permanent quest.
  • Chapter IV Segue – The Nethermancer’s Requiem: This quest digs deeper into the mystery of Jingran’s lamp and the memories buried within it. Also permanent.

Story scenes hint at sky cities floating toward a huge ethereal structure, and a brief glimpse of characters including what appears to be Suoming sets up what’s coming in future versions.

Version 3.6 opens the Ren Realm, a brand-new explorable region situated high above the clouds in Xuanfang. It comes with supply chests, environmental puzzles, and world quests.

The Ren Realm is described as a place in constant flux, with areas that stay unexplained even after the patch – a deliberate tease from Kuro Games for future story beats. The area is accessible as you progress through the main quest.

Sword Flight

Sword Flight is the biggest new traversal feature of Version 3.6. You ride a flying sword through the air. It unlocks as you progress through the main quest. After completing the story, designated zones across Mengzhou become available for free Sword Flight.

Note that flight is limited to specific designated areas, not the entire open world. This is how Kuro typically gates traversal systems, with the scope usually expanding in later patches.

Guqin Performance

After completing the main quest, players receive an exclusive seven-string guqin. You can access it from your Backpack or bind it to the Utility Wheel. From there, you can play existing melodies, improvise your own, and share them with friends.

It’s a full creative sandbox music system tied to the Mengzhou setting. The Guqin is also central to Qingxiao’s character design and the event “The Strings Remember.”

Three new enemies arrive in Version 3.6:

  • Calamity Effigy – A new boss that also becomes a 4-cost Echo. This is the primary new combat challenge of the patch.
  • Skywatch Lancer – A new enemy found in the Ren Realm.
  • Jade Nether Serpent – Another new enemy tied to the new exploration area.

  • Second Coming of Solaris: Coded Deception – A returning leisure event series.

Should You Pull for Qingxiao or Jingran?

Both characters are strong main DPS options but play very differently.

She synergizes well with Verina for healing and buffing, and Mornye as a Tune-Break support. She is reported to work fine even at S0 (no Resonance Chains), making her F2P friendly.

Jingran is the pick if you want an HP-scaling, Heavy Attack-focused Fusion carry with built-in tankiness. He does not need his signature weapon to function but benefits greatly from the shield-related passive it provides. He pairs well with Shorekeeper and other support characters who can boost his uptime. His self-sustain makes him great for solo content too.

If Astrites are limited, pick the one that fills a gap in your roster. Phase 1 is a clean two-way choice between Qingxiao and Denia, while Phase 2 has three rerun options alongside Jingran, which makes budgeting harder.
