Who Is Yaoyao in Genshin Impact?
Yaoyao is a 4-star Dendro character who uses a Polearm. She was released in Version 3.4 as part of the Lantern Rite celebrations and made history as the first Dendro healer in Genshin Impact. She is from Liyue and grew up near the tranquil mountains of Qingce Village before moving to Liyue Harbor to train under Madame Ping (known as the Streetward Rambler), one of the Adepti who protect Liyue.
Her title is Burgeoning Grace, her constellation is Osmanthus, and her birthday is March 6th. She is a disciple alongside Xiangling and Ganyu under Madame Ping’s guidance, and despite being the youngest, she often ends up looking after the others. See the full Yaoyao character page for her complete profile.
If you are building Dendro reaction teams, also check our guides for Nahida and Alhaitham, who are two of Yaoyao’s most powerful teammates in Dendro lineups.
Genshin Impact is free to play on PC via the official site, Android, iOS, PlayStation, Epic Games Store, and Xbox.
Understanding Yuegui — Yaoyao’s Core Mechanic
Yaoyao’s entire kit revolves around Yuegui — a small mechanical rabbit companion that was crafted by the Adeptus Cloud Retainer as a gift to protect Yaoyao. Yuegui operates as a turret that throws White Jade Radishes at targets. Here is how targeting works:
- If any party member is below 70% HP, Yuegui throws the radish at that character to heal them.
- If everyone is above 70% HP, Yuegui throws the radish at a nearby enemy to deal Dendro DMG.
This priority system means Yaoyao simultaneously serves as a healer and a Dendro applier. In dangerous fights where the team is frequently taking damage, she leans toward healing. In easier fights where everyone stays healthy, she shifts toward consistent Dendro application. Both radish types deal Dendro DMG in an AoE when they land, meaning she can hit multiple enemies with one throw when they are grouped together.
The most important property of Yuegui is that it operates off-field. Once summoned, Yuegui continues throwing radishes regardless of which character is active. This is what makes Yaoyao a true off-field Dendro healer — she provides sustained healing and Dendro application without needing to stay on the field herself.
Yaoyao Skills and Abilities
Normal Attack: Toss ‘N’ Turn Spear
Yaoyao performs up to 4 consecutive polearm strikes. Her Charged Attack lunges forward and deals damage. Her Plunging Attack drops from mid-air for AoE damage on landing. None of these are used in her standard support rotation, as her value comes entirely from her Skill and Burst.
Elemental Skill: Raphanus Sky Cluster
Yaoyao calls upon Yuegui (Throwing Mode) — the small rabbit device she carries. Yuegui will continuously throw White Jade Radishes at targets following the priority system described above. Each radish explodes on contact, dealing Dendro DMG to nearby enemies in a small AoE and healing the active character based on Yaoyao’s Max HP.
Yuegui from the Elemental Skill remains on the field for a set duration and then disappears. The Skill has a cooldown separate from the Burst summon, so both can be used in a rotation to extend total Yuegui coverage across a fight. Yaoyao can hold the Elemental Skill to aim Yuegui’s throw direction before releasing.
Elemental Burst: Moonjade Descent
Yaoyao activates Adeptal Legacy state, dealing Dendro DMG to nearby opponents and entering a personal power state. During this state:
- She continuously summons additional Yuegui (Jumping Mode) at intervals, up to a maximum of 3 at one time. Each of these works the same as the Elemental Skill Yuegui — throwing White Jade Radishes at low-HP allies or enemies.
- Yaoyao’s Movement Speed increases.
- Yaoyao’s Dendro RES increases significantly.
- When Yaoyao leaves the field during Adeptal Legacy, she stops summoning new Yuegui, but existing ones continue operating for their remaining duration.
The burst is where Yaoyao shines most — three Yuegui throwing radishes simultaneously provides massive healing output and high-frequency Dendro application in a short window. The burst has a high Energy cost of 80, making Energy Recharge a critical stat to manage. After activating the burst, the recommended play is to stay on the field briefly to sprint and move, summoning all 3 Yuegui, then swap off to your main DPS.
Passive Talents
- A1 – Starscatter: When White Jade Radishes explode while Yaoyao is in the Adeptal Legacy state from her burst, she regenerates 3 Energy every 0.8 seconds (capped to a reasonable frequency). This significantly reduces her ER requirements at this ascension level, as the burst effectively partially refunds itself through the radish explosions.
- A4 – Tailing on Tiptoe: When Yaoyao is in the party, she will not startle nearby Crystal Flies or other small creatures. This is the same type of “wildlife passive” as Sayu’s, and is exceptionally useful for collecting Crystal Flies — one of the most annoying materials to gather for crafting. A small but beloved quality-of-life bonus.
- Utility Passive – Floral Piercing: After using Raphanus Sky Cluster or Moonjade Descent, Yaoyao’s Elemental Mastery will be increased by an amount equal to 0.3% of her Max HP for 8 seconds. The maximum EM she can gain this way is 120. This gives her a small but meaningful EM boost after using her abilities, slightly improving her contribution to reaction damage in Dendro teams.
Yaoyao Constellations
Yaoyao’s constellations gradually improve her healing output, energy sustainability, and reaction support. Here is what each one provides:
- C1 – Adeptal Assistance: When Yaoyao is in the Adeptal Legacy state from her burst, Yaoyao herself gains Dendro Elemental Infusion on her Normal Attacks. This turns Yaoyao into a capable Dendro on-field driver during the burst window and meaningfully increases her personal Dendro application. At C1, she can also increase another Dendro character’s DMG bonus (like Nahida’s) through the interaction with the Adeptal Legacy state. This is her most impactful constellation for both support and reaction-driving scenarios.
- C2 – Innocent: When the Adeptal Legacy state from Moonjade Descent is active, if White Jade Radish explosions damage opponents, she regenerates 3 Energy every 0.8 seconds. This greatly improves her burst uptime by partially self-refunding the burst’s Energy cost mid-state. Combined with the A1 passive’s energy return, C2 makes Yaoyao’s rotation considerably smoother.
- C3 – Halcyon Serenade: Increases the level of Raphanus Sky Cluster (Elemental Skill) by 3, up to Level 15. More healing and Dendro DMG from each radish throw.
- C4 – Winsome: After using Raphanus Sky Cluster or Moonjade Descent, Yaoyao’s Elemental Mastery will be increased based on 0.3% of her Max HP for 8 seconds. Maximum EM she can gain this way is 120. Combined with her Utility Passive (which shares this effect), this further improves her reaction damage contribution post-ability use.
- C5 – Trefoil Serenade: Increases the level of Moonjade Descent (Elemental Burst) by 3, up to Level 15. Stronger burst initial hit and more powerful Adeptal Legacy Yuegui output.
- C6 – Blossom Burst: For every 2 White Jade Radishes Yuegui (Throwing Mode) throws, the next throw becomes a Mega Radish with larger AoE. Mega Radishes deal AoE Dendro DMG equal to 75% of Yaoyao’s ATK and restore HP equal to 7.5% of her Max HP for the active character. Each Throwing Mode Yuegui can produce a maximum of 2 Mega Radishes. This significantly enhances her skill-phase healing and Dendro application, with each Mega Radish covering a noticeably larger area and hitting harder than standard radishes.
Best constellation to aim for: C1 is Yaoyao’s most meaningful upgrade — the Dendro infusion turns her into a capable on-field Dendro driver during her burst window and enables additional team synergies. C2 dramatically improves her energy loop. Both are worth pursuing if you are investing in her.
Best Weapons for Yaoyao in Genshin Impact
Top Pick: Favonius Lance (4-star)
Favonius Lance is Yaoyao’s best weapon for most builds and teams. Its Energy Recharge substat directly addresses her most important stat need, and its passive — generating Elemental Orbs on CRIT hits — provides energy to the whole team, not just Yaoyao. This makes her genuinely helpful for teammates who also have energy needs, like Raiden Shogun or Alhaitham. Requires some CRIT Rate on artifacts to proc reliably, but Yaoyao can hold enough to activate it consistently with good artifact substats.
Strong Alternatives
- Kitain Cross Spear (4-star, Craftable): Elemental Mastery substat with a passive that generates 3 Energy every 10 seconds and reduces the Elemental Burst Energy cost by 3. A very strong F2P option that partially addresses both ER and EM needs simultaneously, and it can be forged at a blacksmith. This is the best craftable option for Yaoyao.
- Dialogues of the Desert Sages (4-star): HP% substat, which directly boosts Yaoyao’s healing output since her radish heals scale with Max HP. The passive also provides Energy restoration after being healed. A solid HP-focused option.
- Rightful Reward (4-star): HP% substat with a passive that restores 8 Energy after the character is healed. In teams where Yaoyao herself takes damage and receives healing, this helps with burst uptime without needing as much ER on artifacts.
- Black Tassel (3-star): HP% substat at a very high value for a 3-star weapon. At refinement 5, it gives a substantial HP boost that directly increases her healing. The passive (increased damage vs slimes) is irrelevant, but the raw HP value makes it a surprisingly competitive option in pure healing builds when 4-star options are unavailable.
- Engulfing Lightning (5-star): Energy Recharge substat with a large ER-to-ATK conversion passive. Not necessary for Yaoyao but provides excellent ER if you have it and no better user for it.
Best Artifacts for Yaoyao in Genshin Impact
Best Set for Dendro Support: 4-Piece Deepwood Memories
This is Yaoyao’s most commonly recommended artifact set and the one she is most uniquely suited to hold. The 2-piece gives 15% Dendro DMG Bonus. The 4-piece passive decreases nearby opponents’ Dendro RES by 30% for 8 seconds when the wearer’s Elemental Skill or Burst hits. Crucially, this effect triggers even when Yaoyao is off the field — Yuegui’s radish explosions count as Elemental Skill hits and trigger the 4-piece shred automatically.
This means Yaoyao can permanently maintain Dendro resistance shred on enemies as long as Yuegui is active, which is nearly the entire fight. Every Dendro DPS on the team — Nahida, Alhaitham, Tighnari, and others — deals substantially more Dendro damage as a result. Running Deepwood on Yaoyao frees those DPS characters to use their own optimal artifact sets rather than sacrificing a set slot for Deepwood themselves. Check the Nahida guide and Alhaitham guide for how this benefits their damage.
Alternative Set: 4-Piece Tenacity of the Millelith
If another character on the team is already running Deepwood Memories, switch Yaoyao to 4-piece Tenacity of the Millelith. The 4-piece passive increases all party members’ ATK by 20% and Shield Strength by 30% for 3 seconds when the wearer’s Elemental Skill hits an opponent. Yuegui’s hits on enemies trigger this buff passively off-field, providing a near-permanent 20% ATK bonus to the entire team. In teams without a shielder, this passive provides the ATK buff without requiring any on-field effort from Yaoyao.
Other Viable Options
- 4-piece Maiden Beloved: Increases healing received by all party members by 20% after Yaoyao uses a skill or burst. Straightforward healing amplifier. Good in teams with tankier enemies where sustained healing matters more than reaction support.
- 2-piece Deepwood + 2-piece Tenacity of the Millelith: Hybrid option giving Dendro DMG Bonus and 20% HP. A decent middle ground if you do not have good 4-piece sets of either.
- 4-piece Flower of Paradise Lost: A niche but functional option in teams where Yaoyao is the primary Bloom reaction trigger. The 4-piece significantly boosts Bloom, Hyperbloom, and Burgeon damage — useful when Yaoyao’s radishes are generating and triggering Bloom cores rather than just applying Dendro for a DPS to react with.
Artifact Main Stats
- Sands: HP% or Energy Recharge
- Goblet: HP%
- Circlet: Healing Bonus% or HP%
- Sub-stats to prioritize: HP%, Energy Recharge, then CRIT Rate (if using Favonius Lance)
Yaoyao gains HP% as her ascension stat, reaching 24% bonus HP at full Level 90 ascension. Since both her healing and her A4/C4 EM bonus scale with Max HP, leveling her to 90 is recommended — more HP means better heals and a higher EM ceiling from her passives.
Best Teams for Yaoyao in Genshin Impact
Best Team: Hyperbloom (Alhaitham + Xingqiu + Raiden Shogun)
- Alhaitham – On-field Dendro Main DPS applying sustained Dendro
- Xingqiu – Off-field Hydro for Bloom core generation
- Raiden Shogun – Off-field Electro Skill to trigger Hyperbloom on cores
- Yaoyao – Healer, Deepwood Memories Dendro RES shred, additional off-field Dendro
This is Yaoyao’s strongest team and rated SS tier by community resources. Alhaitham’s Dendro + Xingqiu’s Hydro generates Bloom cores constantly. Raiden’s Elemental Skill sitting off-field fires Electro hits at enemies, which trigger Hyperbloom on any nearby Bloom cores — Hyperbloom is a homing Dendro missile that deals massive EM-scaling damage. Yaoyao’s Yuegui handles healing passively while also contributing additional Dendro through her radish throws, and her Deepwood Memories 4-piece maintains Dendro RES shred throughout the fight. The team is self-sufficient and powerful across almost all endgame content. See the Alhaitham guide, Xingqiu guide, and Raiden Shogun guide for their builds here.
Nilou Bloom Team
- Nahida or Alhaitham – On-field Dendro DPS
- Nilou – Hydro support who converts Bloom cores into Bountiful Cores
- Kamisato Ayato or Xingqiu – Additional Hydro for Bloom core production
- Yaoyao – Second Dendro unit, healer, Deepwood Memories support
Nilou’s special passive transforms all Bloom cores on the field into Bountiful Cores — faster-exploding, larger-AoE versions that deal significantly more damage but require only Hydro and Dendro on the team (no Electro or Pyro). Yaoyao fills the second Dendro slot perfectly, providing both Dendro application from Yuegui and healing that keeps the team alive through Bloom self-damage. Her Deepwood RES shred also boosts Nahida’s or Alhaitham’s Dendro hits. This team excels at clearing multiple enemies simultaneously with the massive Bountiful Core AoE explosions. See the Nilou guide for her build in this composition.
Aggravate / Quicken Team
- Keqing, Yae Miko, or Cyno – On-field Electro Main DPS triggering Aggravate
- Nahida – Off-field Dendro for Quicken and Spread reactions
- Kazuha or Zhongli – Anemo grouping and resistance shred, or shielding
- Yaoyao – Second Dendro unit, healer, frees Nahida to run damage artifacts
In Aggravate and Quicken teams, the Dendro + Electro combination maintains a Quicken aura on enemies. When Electro attacks trigger Aggravate or Dendro attacks trigger Spread, both add flat elemental damage to the hit. Yaoyao occupies the second Dendro slot, maintaining the Quicken aura even when Nahida is off-field and providing healing that keeps the Electro DPS safe. With Yaoyao holding Deepwood Memories, Nahida can switch to a damage set like Golden Troupe or a personal build, increasing overall team output. See the Yae Miko guide and Keqing guide for their Aggravate builds.
Burgeon Team
- Thoma or Klee – Off-field or on-field Pyro to trigger Burgeon on Bloom cores
- Xingqiu or Yelan – Off-field Hydro for Bloom core generation
- Nahida or Alhaitham – Primary Dendro applicator
- Yaoyao – Second Dendro, healer to counteract Burgeon self-damage
Burgeon (Pyro + Bloom core) triggers large AoE Dendro explosions, but like Bloom, it deals self-damage to the active character. Yaoyao’s healing is especially valuable in Burgeon teams because it continuously counteracts this self-damage without requiring additional investment. She also contributes Dendro through Yuegui’s radishes, helping generate more Bloom cores for Burgeon explosions. See the Thoma guide for his Burgeon build as a Pyro trigger alongside Yaoyao.
Yaoyao Ascension Materials
Gem Type
- Nagadus Emerald (Sliver, Fragment, Chunk, and Gemstone) – The Dendro gem. Drops from the Dendro Hypostasis, Jadeplume Terrorshroom, Electro Regisvine, and weekly bosses that drop Dendro gems. Can also be crafted via Alchemy using Dust of Azoth.
Boss Drop
- Quelled Creeper (46 needed) – Dropped by the Dendro Hypostasis field boss. The Dendro Hypostasis is located in the Vissudha Field area of Sumeru, in the Ashavan Realm region. Spend 40 Original Resin per run. This boss has a mechanic where it regenerates HP using Dendro cores at low health — destroy the cores before they revive it.
Local Specialty
- Jueyun Chili (168 needed) – A red pepper found growing throughout Liyue, particularly around Minlin, Qingce Village, and the Stone Gate area. Chef Mao and the merchant Fengtai in Liyue Harbor sell limited quantities. It can also be grown in the Serenitea Pot using seeds collected with the Seed Dispensary gadget. Jueyun Chili is shared with a few other characters, so plan your farming route around their respawn cycles.
Enemy Drops
- Slime Condensate
- Slime Secretions
- Slime Concentrate
All three tiers drop from Slime enemies of all types — Pyro Slimes, Cryo Slimes, Hydro Slimes, Dendro Slimes, and others. Slimes are found throughout the world and are extremely common, making this one of the easiest enemy drop categories to farm.
Ascension Stat
Yaoyao gains HP% as her ascension stat, reaching 24% bonus HP at full Level 90 ascension. Since her healing from White Jade Radishes scales with Max HP, and her A4/C4 EM bonus also scales with Max HP, leveling Yaoyao to 90 is always worth it — more HP means better heals, higher EM from passives, and better overall support value.
Yaoyao Talent Materials
To level up Yaoyao’s talents, you will need:
- Diligence Talent Books: Teachings, Guide, and Philosophies of Diligence — farmed from the Taishan Mansion domain in Liyue on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays
- Slime Condensate, Slime Secretions, and Slime Concentrate — drops from Slime enemies
- Mudra of the Malefic General — weekly boss material from the Magatsu Mitake Narukami no Mikoto (Raiden Shogun) Trounce Domain
- Crown of Insight — required to max a talent to Level 10
Talent Priority
- Elemental Skill first — Raphanus Sky Cluster (Yaoyao’s radish-throwing Yuegui) is her primary healing and Dendro application tool. The heal scales with both Yaoyao’s Max HP and the talent level, making leveling the skill the most impactful upgrade for her support role.
- Elemental Burst second — Moonjade Descent amplifies her healing output significantly during its window with 3 simultaneous Yuegui. Leveling the burst increases both the initial hit and the Adeptal Legacy Yuegui’s radish strength. Prioritize after the skill.
- Normal Attack last — Yaoyao’s Normal Attacks contribute nothing to her support rotation and can be left at Level 1 indefinitely. Only level this if the other two are maxed and you want to optimize her slight on-field contributions at C1.
Yaoyao Playstyle Tips
- Stack Energy Recharge before HP. Her burst costs 80 Energy and is her most powerful tool. Without enough ER, she cannot use it consistently and loses most of her healing output. Aim for around 200% ER before C2, and around 160–180% ER at C2 where her burst partially refunds itself. Only focus on HP% after hitting your ER target.
- Run Deepwood Memories unless another character already has it. In most Dendro teams, Yaoyao is the best Deepwood holder because Yuegui procs the 4-piece off-field without any on-field effort. This frees Nahida, Alhaitham, and other Dendro DPS to run their own optimal damage sets, which significantly boosts the team’s total damage output.
- Use the skill and burst in sequence, not at the same time. Both summon Yuegui. If you use them back-to-back, you waste coverage time. Use the Elemental Skill first to get Yuegui on the field, then use the burst when the skill Yuegui is running out. The burst window with 3 Jumping Mode Yuegui is your highest healing and Dendro application output.
- Sprint and jump during the burst state to trigger Yuegui summons faster. During Adeptal Legacy, Yuegui are summoned at intervals as Yaoyao moves. Moving actively — especially sprinting — causes the next Yuegui to appear more quickly. After activating the burst, sprint in circles near the enemies to spawn all 3 Yuegui as quickly as possible before swapping off.
- At C1, stay on the field briefly during the burst state. C1 gives Yaoyao Dendro infusion on Normal Attacks during the burst. In teams that benefit from extra on-field Dendro application — particularly Quicken or Hyperbloom teams where more Dendro cores and reactions are always welcome — a few Normal Attacks from Yaoyao during her burst window adds meaningful value before you swap to the main DPS.
- She handles Bloom self-damage well, but it is not her only use case. Yaoyao is a strong choice in any team that uses Dendro. Even in teams without Bloom self-damage (like pure Aggravate), her healing keeps the team comfortable through elite enemy hits and Spiral Abyss mechanics.
Yaoyao Lore and Background
Yaoyao grew up near Qingce Village in Liyue, surrounded by mountains and nature. She has an affinity for animals and plants, and it shows in both her personality and her choice of fighting style — her radishes are vegetables, after all. Despite growing up in a quiet mountain setting, she secretly prefers the lively bustle of Liyue Harbor and has adjusted well to city life since moving there to train under Madame Ping.
She is a disciple of Madame Ping, the ancient Adeptus known as the Streetward Rambler who lives in Liyue Harbor posing as an elderly woman. Madame Ping saw potential in Yaoyao and took her in, joining Xiangling and Ganyu as disciples. Despite being the youngest, Yaoyao has a nurturing and responsible nature that often leads her to take care of the others — making sure Ganyu actually eats properly, keeping an eye out for Xiangling’s more chaotic cooking experiments, and befriending Qiqi in the city.
Yuegui, the mechanical rabbit companion she carries, was a gift from Cloud Retainer — the bird Adeptus who builds devices and lives on Mt. Aocang. Cloud Retainer crafted Yuegui specifically to protect Yaoyao when Madame Ping herself could not be nearby. Yuegui is deeply loyal to Yaoyao, following her everywhere and, in her own words, treating all the Yuegui summoned during her burst as the same being: “Which one of these is actually Yuegui? Aren’t they all Yuegui?”
Yaoyao is warm, sincere, and modest about her own abilities, but those who know her recognize that she is quietly extraordinary — caring for everyone around her while rarely asking for anything in return. Madame Ping watches over her with genuine fondness, as do the other Adepti who know of her.
How to Get Yaoyao
Yaoyao is a standard 4-star character available on the Wanderlust Invocation Standard Wish banner permanently. She was given out as a free character during Lantern Rite in Version 3.4 to new players, and has appeared on several event banners as a featured rate-up 4-star since then. Her most recent rate-up was during Version 6.1 Phase 1 in October 2025, alongside Nefer and Furina’s banners.
Because she is a standard 4-star, she can be pulled on any banner at any time. Gathering constellations over time through Paimon’s Bargains and Standard pulls is realistic, making her C1 upgrade achievable for dedicated players.
Is Yaoyao Worth Building?
Yaoyao is absolutely worth building, especially for players who run Dendro reaction teams and do not have Nahida or Baizhu. As the first Dendro healer in the game, she fills a role that no other character covered at her release, and she continues to be one of the most accessible and beginner-friendly Dendro supports available.
Her combination of off-field healing, off-field Dendro application, and Deepwood Memories uptime makes her genuinely impactful in Bloom, Hyperbloom, Burgeon, and Aggravate teams. She requires minimal investment — even at C0, her core loop of summoning Yuegui and letting it work off-field is effective and easy to understand.
She is not the strongest Dendro support available — characters like Nahida and Baizhu surpass her in different ways — but she is highly accessible, completely free-to-play friendly, and one of the most comfortable supports to play. For players exploring Dendro content and building teams around newer characters like those in the Snezhnaya update, Yaoyao provides a stable Dendro healing foundation that pairs well alongside characters like Alyosha and the broader Odette roster as you continue building your account.
