Wiggling Hill Ruins Puzzle Solution
TL;DR
- The Wiggling Hill Ruins is a Mysterious Energy location southeast of The Crimson Wall in the Demeniss region
- You need Nature’s Snare to drain the water — found in the Spirit/green branch of the skill tree
- Draining the water alone does NOT complete the puzzle — you must also light all five lanterns
- You will not lose draining progress if your Spirit runs out — use Focus to recover and keep going
- Stand away from the spinning device or it will hit and damage you
- Completing this puzzle counts toward The Thread in the Forest challenge (37 ruins total)
The Wiggling Hill Ruins is one of the Mysterious Energy locations scattered across Pywel in Crimson Desert. It appears on your map as a white question mark icon when you get close. What makes this puzzle trip up a lot of players is that it has two stages. Draining the water is just the first part. After that, you still need to find and light five lanterns before the Abyss Cresset activates. If you drained the water and nothing happened, that is why.
This guide covers how to get there, how to unlock Nature’s Snare, how to handle both spinning devices, and exactly where all five lanterns are.

Wiggling Hill Ruins Location In Crimson Desert
The Wiggling Hill Ruins Abyss Cresset is located in the Demeniss region, specifically southeast of The Crimson Wall. Here is the fastest way to reach it:

- Teleport to the Abyss Nexus west of the City of Demeniss
- Mount your horse and ride north toward the farms
- Cross the river and turn right
- Ride toward The Crimson Wall until you spot a gap between two mountains
- Dismount and walk through the gap
- The Abyss Cresset and spinning device will be just ahead
If you have not unlocked fast travel yet, see our guide on how to fast travel in Crimson Desert.

Unlock Nature’s Snare Before You Go
You cannot solve this puzzle without Nature’s Snare. It is the only skill that activates the spinning water drain devices.
Where to find it: Nature’s Snare is in the Spirit branch (green section) of the skill tree, in the lower-left corner of the Skills menu.
How to unlock it:
There are two ways:
- Observation — you can learn Nature’s Snare by watching an enemy or environment use it in the field. The screen darkens slightly and a pop-up appears saying “Learning in Progress” when this triggers
- Spend an Abyss Artifact — the faster and more reliable method. Before you can unlock it this way, you must first have Keen Senses Lv.3 and Focus Lv.2 already learned
If you are short on Abyss Artifacts, our guide on how to open sealed Abyss Artifacts in Crimson Desert explains how to use them. For more on building your skill tree, check our best early build guide and best skills to level up first.
Stage 1 — Drain The Water
Once you arrive at the puzzle, you will see the Abyss Cresset surrounded by water and two spinning pump devices nearby.

Here is how to drain the water:
First Device:
- Stand next to the first spinning device near the Abyss Cresset
- Press Focus to build up Spirit
- Use Nature’s Snare on the device to start spinning it — this slowly lowers the water level
- Important: Stand back while it spins. The rotating mechanism will hit and damage you if you are too close
Second Device:
- The second device is across from the first, partially submerged in the water
- Use the stone pillars in the area to cross safely without going into deep water
- Use Nature’s Snare on this second device and keep spinning
Spirit tip: Nature’s Snare drains Spirit continuously while active. If your Spirit runs out mid-drain, do not panic. You do not lose any draining progress. Simply use Focus to recover your Spirit, then resume using Nature’s Snare. Keep doing this until the water is fully gone.
Unlike the Haunted Hill Ruins, there is no cutscene once the water drains. The puzzle continues immediately into the next stage. Many players drain the water and then wander off thinking something is broken. Do not stop here — you still have five lanterns to light.

Stage 2 — Light All Five Lanterns
After the water drains, your task is to find and light five lanterns spread across the ruins area.

How to light a lantern: Walk up to each lantern and long-press Square (PlayStation) / Y (Xbox) on controller, or long-press E on PC. Hold the button until the lantern lights up.
Here are all five lantern locations in order:
Lantern 1
Turn around from the drained water area and climb the small broken rubble nearby. The first lantern is on top of it. Approach and hold the button to light it.
Lantern 2
From Lantern 1, walk south. The second lantern is a short distance away in that direction.
Lantern 3
From Lantern 2, turn north and move behind the broken wall in the area. The third lantern is tucked behind it.

Lantern 4
Turn around from Lantern 3 and walk north past the spinning device. The fourth lantern is in that direction. Light it up.

Lantern 5
From Lantern 4, keep walking north until you reach a broken stone column. The fifth and final lantern is beside it. Light it to complete the puzzle.

Rewards
Once all five lanterns are lit, the Wiggling Hill Ruins puzzle is complete. You receive:
- An Abyss Artifact — used to unlock new skills or upgrade your gear. See our guide on how to get skill points in Crimson Desert for how to spend it well
- The Abyss Cresset activates as a permanent fast travel waypoint at this location
This puzzle also counts as one of the 37 ruins tracked under The Thread in the Forest regional challenge in your journal.

Where To Get Crimson Desert
Ready to explore Pywel and solve every ruin? Get the game on your platform:
The Wiggling Hill Ruins puzzle is one of the few in Crimson Desert that catches players twice — once because they do not have Nature’s Snare, and again because draining the water is only half the job. Learn the skill, drain both devices, then follow the five lanterns north to finish it off. The Abyss Artifact and fast travel point make it one of the more rewarding ruins to clear.
