Crimson Desert: Origin of Thought Puzzle Solution

The Origin of Thought is one of the Abyss puzzles you’ll encounter inside the Crescent Skybridge — the floating sky area you reach after completing the Spire of Soaring. It’s part of the Chapter 5 main quest, Toward the Nest, so you won’t be able to skip it.

The puzzle involves riding wind turbines, carrying a battery to power them, and rotating three rings at the top until all the lights turn blue. It sounds more complicated than it is. Follow the steps below and you’ll be through in a few minutes.

Where to Find the Origin of Thought (Spire of Soaring Location)

The Origin of Thought is found inside the Abyss above the Spire of Soaring, which is located in northern Demeniss.

One important thing to know: the main entrance of the Spire is collapsed and blocked. Don’t waste time trying to force it open. Instead, look to the lower right side of the tower. There’s a tunnel entrance down below on the cliff. Head through it — this is how you get inside.

Once inside the Spire, you’ll solve the Spire’s own electricity puzzles to ride the platform up into the sky. That takes you to the Crescent Skybridge and eventually leads you to the Origin of Thought puzzle area.

Step 1 — Climb the Platforms Using Wind Turbines

step 1 climb the platforms
step 1 climb the platforms

Once you’re inside the Origin of Thought area, look south. You’ll see wind turbines.

Jump toward them and press Square (PS) / X (Xbox) to activate flight. The turbines launch you upward onto a large ring platform.

From that ring, head to the east side. More turbines are waiting there. Ride them to go even higher.

Step 2 — Find the Battery and Power the Upper Turbines

step 2 find the battery and activate the turbines

Fly west toward the next ring. Near the west side, you’ll spot a floating battery hovering in mid-air.

Here’s what to do:

  1. Use Axiom Force to grab the battery. Axiom Force is your telekinetic grab ability — hold it to lock onto objects and carry them.
  2. Carry the battery up the platforms along the west path.
  3. At the top, slot the battery in between the deactivated turbines.
  4. Press L3 (PS) / RS (Xbox) — Force Palm — to activate the turbines. Force Palm sends a short burst of energy from your palm to power mechanisms.

With the turbines now running, fly upward and north. A new set of turbines will carry you all the way to the top of the Origin of Thought area.

If you’re running low on stamina mid-climb, see our guide on how to get max stamina in Crimson Desert.

Step 3 — Rotate the Three Rings to Complete the Puzzle

step 3 align the rings to complete the puzzle
step 3 align the rings to complete the puzzle

This is the main part of the Origin of Thought puzzle.

  1. Walk east across the top circular platform.
  2. You’ll reach an edge where you can look down and see a yellow dial below.
  3. Use Axiom Force on the dial. This gives you control over the three circular ring platforms below you.
  4. Switch between rings using L2 and R2 (PS) / LT and RT (Xbox). Rotate each ring using the D-Pad.
  5. Your goal: rotate all three rings so the small rings align with the yellow rings.
  6. When each ring is in the correct position, its lights switch from yellow to blue. Get all three blue to solve the puzzle.

Now head back down to the bottom platform. At the center, use Force Palm (L3/RS) on the yellow dial. The Abyss Gate opens. Walk through it to reach the next puzzle area.

What Comes After the Origin of Thought?

After clearing Origin of Thought, the Abyss Gate sends you to the next puzzle in the Crescent Skybridge chain — the Forgotten Altar. You’ll arrive in the middle of a tornado with seemingly no way out. Don’t panic.

Our Forgotten Altar walkthrough covers exactly what to do next.

What Does the Abyss Artifact Do?

When you complete Origin of Thought, you claim an Abyss Artifact. These are one of the most important items in Crimson Desert.

Abyss Artifacts are used to:

  • Unlock new skills and abilities in your skill tree
  • Increase core stats like health, stamina, and spirit
  • Upgrade your equipment to higher tiers

You’ll want to farm as many as possible. See our guides on how to get Abyss Cells, how to open Sealed Abyss Artifacts, and how to get better equipment.

Tips for the Origin of Thought Puzzle

  • No timer exists. Take your time rotating rings. There’s no pressure.
  • The small ring markers are your guide. Line them up with the yellow rings — the lights confirm when each one is right.
  • You must slot the battery first. Skip this step and the upper turbines stay off. You won’t be able to reach the ring puzzle.
  • On PC, the controls mirror the gamepad layout. If you’re unsure which input style suits you better, check our keyboard and mouse vs controller comparison.
