Yarn Ball or Fons Anomaly Commission Guide – NTE: Neverness to Everness

TL;DR

  • Yarn Ball or Fons is a Common Anomaly Commission in the New Herland District.
  • Head to the Gold Apple Collection Hall near Crocodile Clock Avenue.
  • Talk to Date (the NPC in the pale yellow suit) to unlock the locked door.
  • Take the elevator down to B1 and fight Mammon, the giant monster cat boss.
  • Mammon has no elemental weakness during this commission — just bring your best team.
  • Beating Mammon completes the commission and unlocks ongoing weekly Fons farming through the Blind Mammon plushie.

Yarn Ball or Fons is one of those Anomaly Commissions in NTE: Neverness to Everness that can leave you confused before you even start. The anomaly location is inside a building, the door is locked, and Mammon is not exactly easy once you do find it. This guide covers every step — where to go, who to talk to, how to get underground, and how to beat Mammon without getting overwhelmed.

If you are new to Anomaly Commissions in general, our Anomaly Zones guide for NTE is a good starting point before diving into specific commissions.

Yarn Ball or Fons Location in NTE (Neverness to Everness)

This commission is found in the New Herland District. The anomaly itself is located on the underground floor of the Gold Apple Collection Hall, near Crocodile Clock Avenue.

To get there, teleport to the ReroRero Phone Booth close to the marked area on your map, then head east toward the Gold Apple Collection Hall. You can track the commission through the Anomaly Commission screen — open it from the bottom-right icon on the World Map and find it under the New Herland District section.

How to Start the Yarn Ball or Fons Commission

When you arrive at the Gold Apple Collection Hall, the door on the far right side of the building will be locked. You cannot just walk through it.

Look for an NPC named Date — the Gold Apple Collection Hall Director. He is wearing a pale yellow suit and is standing right in front of the locked door, just below the stairs. Talk to him and exhaust his dialogue. This will unlock the door and let you proceed.

Once the door is open, follow the path inside. You will come to an elevator. Take it and select B1.

Finding Mammon at B1

When you arrive at B1, you will find a room filled with mountains of gold scattered around. Mammon will be there admiring the view.

Mammon is the anomaly for this commission — a giant monster cat with a strong attraction to Fons and shiny valuables. Approach it and the boss fight will begin.

How to Beat Mammon in NTE

Mammon is the main challenge of this commission. It is a fast and aggressive boss with erratic movement patterns that can catch you off guard.

Key Things to Know Before the Fight

  • No elemental weakness. During the Yarn Ball or Fons Anomaly Commission specifically, Mammon has no assigned elemental weakness on the Esper Cycle. Do not try to build around a specific element — just bring your strongest team.
  • Melee-heavy attack pattern. Mammon mainly uses melee attacks, but its movement is unpredictable. It can quickly dart out of range even when you are using ranged attacks, so stay mobile.
  • Little to no attack warning. Many of Mammon’s moves come with almost no visible windup. Watch its body movement closely and be ready to dodge at a moment’s notice.

Mammon’s Key Attack to Watch Out For

The most dangerous move is the Claw Slam, which summons golden pillars from the ground. The area of effect is large, and the pillars emerge quickly. If you have not learned the timing yet, these can surprise you. Stay moving and give yourself space when you see Mammon rear up for a slam.

Consistent dodging is the most important skill here. If you want to sharpen your dodge timing before this fight, check our guide on how to parry, dodge, and riposte in NTE.

Best Team for Mammon

Since Mammon has no weakness in this commission, you are free to pick whoever deals the most damage. A good combination to consider is using Lakshana-element characters, as Mammon is weak to Lakshana when fought through the Anomaly Furniture version of the fight — and the same strategy carries over well here.

One strong setup involves Nanally as the main damage dealer paired with Hathor for follow-up attacks. The Remora and Blossom Esper Cycle reactions work well against Mammon’s fast movement. Adding a third character that completes the Anima, Cosmos, and Lakshana trio can also trigger the Charge Esper Cycle, restoring Ultimate energy across the whole team during the fight.

For full character builds, see our Nanally build guide and Hathor build guide. If you are still deciding which characters to invest in, check our NTE character tier list.

Finishing the Fight

Defeat Mammon to clear the commission. After the fight, you are transported back to the main hall floor and Date will thank you for your help. Report back and the commission is done.

Yarn Ball or Fons Rewards

Clearing this commission gives you a strong set of rewards:

  • Hunter Level EXP x300
  • Annulith x40
  • Fons x15,000
  • Silver Carrota x80
  • U-00NE x30
  • Beetle Coin x7,500
  • Anomaly Material Selection Box I x2

The 15,000 Fons reward alone makes this one of the most valuable Anomaly Commissions in the game. If you want to know how to use Fons effectively and where to farm more, see our guide on how to get Fons fast in NTE. For the full breakdown of every currency in the game, check our NTE all currencies guide.

What Happens After You Beat Yarn Ball or Fons

Completing this commission does more than just give you a one-time reward. It unlocks an ongoing weekly Fons farming opportunity through the Blind Mammon plushie system.

How to Unlock the Blind Mammon Plushie

After completing the commission, you can set up a repeatable fight against Mammon at home. Here is how:

  • Step 1: Own a property in NTE (the first apartment is enough). See our guide on how to buy a house in NTE.
  • Step 2: Complete Chapter 3 of the main story (Deal? Deal!) to unlock access to the Ebisu Auction House.
  • Step 3: Go to the Ebisu Auction House and bid on the Gluttonous Eye item. This is the item needed to activate the Blind Mammon plushie furniture.
  • Step 4: Also purchase Covetous Coins at the auction. These are used to first activate the plushie and then to level it up over time.
  • Step 5: Place the Blind Mammon plushie in your property and activate it using the Gluttonous Eye and Covetous Coins. This unlocks the Realm of Greed game mode.

How the Realm of Greed Works

Once the Blind Mammon plushie is active, interact with it and choose “Enter Realm of Greed” to fight Mammon again. The fight resets every Monday and has a weekly Fons reward cap.

There is a timer during the fight — if the timer runs out before you defeat Mammon, you forfeit the Fons you earned during that run. Aim to defeat Mammon fully before the timer expires to secure the full payout.

The more you level up the Blind Mammon plushie using Covetous Coins, the more Fons you earn per run. You can also challenge the fight as many times as you want — each new personal record grants extra rewards stacked on top of your previous ones, so replaying and improving is always worth it.

Tip: If your own plushie is still low level, visit a friend who has a higher-level Blind Mammon and run the fight from their home for a larger weekly payout.

Mammon also shows up as the final boss of the Pink Paws Bank Heist, where defeating it rewards a large amount of Fons. For that, check our Pink Paws Heist guide and the guide on how to reach Mammon in the Pink Paw Heist.
